What role you will play in our team
This apprenticeship program provides work experience in the oil sands mining industry at our Kearl Operations. Currently have 5 entry level apprenticeship openings consisting of Industrial Maintenance Mechanic/Millwright apprenticeship postings/ placements. Initially you will train as a member of our maintenance staff to gain practical hands-on experience with maintenance and safety procedures. On-the-job experience will be supplemented with additional related formal technical training.
The work placement is located at Imperial's Kearl Oils Sands Operation. North of Ft. McMurray, AB.

What you will do
While working under the supervision of an experienced mentor you will perform various duties such as (but not limited to):
- Executing all work within government regulations and company standards
- Executing specific activities defined within the preventative maintenance program to maintain the integrity of assigned equipment and machinery
- Repair machinery malfunctions identified through the work order system and performing associated plant/field housekeeping
- Utilizing shop tools and equipment and completing predictive maintenance tasks such as vibration monitoring, temperature monitoring etc.

Skills and Qualifications
- Grade 12 high school diploma or GED equivalent is a minimum requirement

- You will work in a supportive team environment
- The role requires shift work (Days/Nights), 14 days on/14 days off rotation as well as living in a camp
- Travel to travel to site utilizing our bus service from Fort McMurray or from one our flight hubs (Calgary or Edmonton) where you will board a charter flight to site
- Effective communication with team members is an important aspect of the apprenticeship program.
- You will be indentured in the apprenticeship program, complete Alberta Industry and Training mandated work terms as well as attend technical training in the province of Alberta
- Actively participate in the Imperial Oil safety culture by adhering to all safety rules and standards and hazard reporting standards
- Continue to enhance your learning journey through training sessions and completing self-development courses as required
- Please provide mechanical experience and/or job related mechanical experience or education
Preferred Qualifications/ Experience
- Ability to pass an apprenticeship entrance exam or
- Previous industrial experience or
- Previous apprenticeship experience or
- Completion of a pre-apprenticeship training program
