What you will do for Harris County Precinct 4 (HCP4)
Harris County Precinct 4 seeks an HVAC Technician. The HVAC Technician works under the direct supervision of the trade's crew superintendent, the right individual must have the ability, training, and licensing to work independently performing tasks associated with the maintenance and operation of all types of air conditioners, electrical components, natural gas and propane heat sources, ice machines, condensing units, chiller package units, air filtration systems, duct work, thermostats, insulation and other aspects of HVAC cooling systems. Good communication and friendly interpersonal skills and willingness to interact with many departments are essential traits. Applicant should be self-motivated, have a "can do attitude," and able to assist other trades with various support activities related to construction, purchasing, design, tool, and equipment management.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain various heat and air systems throughout Precinct 4.
- Possess knowledge about and ability to work on service chiller package units.
- Independently respond to work orders and see them through to completion.
- Perform routine monitoring of air filtration systems in a variety of facilities.
- Maintain a high level of safety in the work environment.
- Establish preventive maintenance routines on HVAC systems.
- Change and install various window units.
- Conduct advance planning of work itineraries for self and journeyman tech.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions.
- Disseminate information on needed repairs and parts replacements.
- Work with Superintendent to prepare future budget needs.
- Perform routine maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Organize, order, and maintain truck stock and common supplies.
- Calculate and design small systems in new buildings throughout the precinct.
- Responsibility for tracking invoices on supplies and parts ordered.
- Update systems, thermostats, ice machine filters, compressors as needed.
- Work directly with staff and oversee daily tech support on various projects.
- May require working before, during, or after an emergency or disaster at the department's discretion.

Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Experience:
- Minimum four (4) years of experience in the HVAC field to perform related fieldwork, order parts, Freon, and supplies from various vendors.
Licensure:
- Texas driver's license and a good driving record
- Ability to work well with others and be team oriented.
- Willing to continue training a journeyman HVAC Tech.
- First aid training a plus.
- Flexible personality that is open to new ideas and suggestions.
- Good observation skills.
- Initiative and perseverance to complete projects.
- Polite communication and direction to others as necessary.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting documents such as plans, specs and related articles, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Can write routine reports and correspondence and maintain records.
- Ability to speak comfortably and effectively before other department heads on an informal basis.
