JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is recruiting Principal Consultant to support the Wood Asset Life Optimisation (ALO) group supporting the Integrity Management Specialist Engineering team.

This is a senior technical role based in our Doha office which will contribute to the delivery of engineering excellence through:
  • Driving excellence in the execution and delivery of engineering consultancy projects.
  • Providing world-class discipline expertise.
  • Significantly contributing to business growth.
  • Guiding, directing, engaging, and motivating teams of technical professionals.

Expected to provide world-class expertise to the organisation and be recognized as an international authority in one of the below fields:
  • Integrity Management of process plant (i.e. pipeline integrity, fracture mechanics, RBI).
  • Corrosion and Materials (i.e. corrosion management, material selection).

Utilising expert technical knowledge in the execution of engineering assignments to identify innovative solutions to complex problems and complete any project tasks with little to no guidance and direction. Will serve as the Discipline Technical Authority on several large and complex projects simultaneously.

Provide high level technical expertise or specialized advice with far-reaching effects on critical business areas with significant responsibility for generating revenue across multiple territories.

Conceive, develop, and evaluate plans and criteria for solving a variety of unique and complex engineering problems. Assesses feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering solutions.

Be a senior staff specialist who is recognised as an expert in theories and principles of the professional field, as demonstrated by significant accomplishments and contributions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Drives excellence in the execution and delivery of contracted activities.
  • Responsible for ensuring ALO services are delivered to the highest technical standards.
  • Continuous promotion of and adherence to the discipline specific procedures and providing feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Management of key stakeholders in the execution and delivery of engineering projects.
  • Support the development and delivery of the technical competence framework.

Providing world-class discipline expertise.
  • Serves as an advisor to other technical personnel.
  • Leads technical workshops and training.
  • Works with project groups as an expert technical advisor on designs, processes, and engineering methods.
  • Solves broad, complex non-recurring problems requiring formulating and testing hypotheses based on limited evidence or precedent; exercises broad business judgment in developing innovative business solutions.
  • Identify new technologies driven by customer needs now and in the actionable future.
  • Understands and helps others understand the future and potential impacts of new technology and technical capability. Anticipates the impact of emerging technologies and adjusts services accordingly.
  • Leads the introduction of innovation, new ideas and practices to improve overall performance.
  • Has broad and extensive authoritative experience and accomplishments resulting in recognition as a world-class expert in the field.

Significantly contributing to business growth
  • Contributes to long-range strategic plans for the group.
  • Contributes to business development through regular engagement, relationship building and delivery to clients, as well as identifying and pursuing opportunities to expand scope of work for Wood.
  • Regularly represents the company as a thought-leader at conferences and other public events.
  • Communicate and co-operate with external stakeholders including: industry bodies, academia, vendors, client interface (as appropriate and requested), market intelligence, relevant conferences, and business development.
  • Able to advance market position and participate at highest levels with key clients.

Guiding, directing engaging and motivating teams of technical professionals
  • Ensures work is integrated and aligned with business goals.
  • Provides coaching and mentoring for direct reports, actively supports recruitment, selection, transfers, and promotion of resources to meet succession and business plans. Support the development and retention of motivated and competent people. Manages performance of direct reports.
  • Monitor compliance with competence standards.
  • Manage and direct resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Manage a portfolio of projects with responsibility for cost, schedule, resource allocation and risk, in line with overall project management strategy.
  • Provide appropriate HSSE leadership including compliance with site and office safety requirements and technical/design safety requirements.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Significant experience (>20 years) working in the on- and offshore petrochemical industry.
  • Demonstrable technical leadership experience in Integrity Management and/or piping/machinery vibration troubleshooting and engineering project management.
  • Demonstratable experience as a steering group/committee member and or chair for a major engineering standard or guideline revision i.e. API, ASME, NACE, Energy Institute, etc.
  • Suitable engineering/science degree and education from a recognised Academic institution. Bachelors (minimum), Level 7 Masters (preferred) or Level 8 Doctorate (desirable).
  • Extensive record of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) including published papers and/or presentations at relevant technical conferences.
  • Chartership, Professional Engineer (PE) status or equivalent relevant professional license/registration from a recognized national or industry engineering institution is expected.
