Instrumentation and Telecom (Lead/Senior) Engineer

 

Job Overview: The Instrumentation and Telecom Engineer (Lead/Senior) will provide technical leadership for the design, implementation, and commissioning of instrumentation, control systems, and telecommunication systems within oil and gas projects. This role requires a deep understanding of instrumentation and telecom systems, as well as the ability to manage project-specific technical requirements, ensuring all systems meet industry standards and project specifications.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Lead the design, specification, and implementation of instrumentation and telecom systems for onshore and offshore oil and gas projects.

Prepare and review technical documentation, including instrument data sheets, equipment lists, telecom system layouts, and specifications for procurement and construction.

Oversee the integration of instrumentation and telecom systems with other engineering disciplines (e.g., mechanical, electrical, civil).

Ensure that all instrumentation and telecom systems comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., IEC, ISA, ATEX).

Perform calculations and simulations to validate system designs, ensuring reliability, safety, and optimal performance.

Lead the preparation and execution of control system and telecom design reviews, HAZOP studies, and risk assessments.

Review and approve vendor proposals, ensuring they align with project specifications and requirements.

Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of instrumentation and telecom systems, ensuring adherence to project schedules and quality standards.

Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and project teams, ensuring best practices in design and execution.

Ensure the effective integration of instrumentation, control, and telecom systems with other systems and equipment, such as SCADA, DCS, and process control systems.

Provide technical support during the construction phase, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.

Ensure that the design of instrumentation and telecom systems meets both functional requirements and safety standards, contributing to the overall success of the project.

Collaborate closely with project managers to ensure project milestones are met and budgets are adhered to.

Assist with the preparation of technical reports and presentations for clients and senior management.

Qualifications & Skills:

 

Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Telecommunication Engineering, or a related field.

Minimum of 8 years of experience in instrumentation and telecom engineering, particularly in the oil and gas industry.

In-depth knowledge of control systems (e.g., PLC, DCS), instrumentation design, and telecom systems.

Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, SmartPlant, etc.) and telecom tools.

Experience in managing instrumentation and telecom design projects, from feasibility studies through to commissioning.

Strong technical background and problem-solving skills in instrumentation and telecom systems.

Ability to lead a team and collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines.

Experience in conducting and leading HAZOP studies, risk assessments, and design reviews.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with clients, vendors, and internal teams.

Understanding of industry standards (e.g., IEC, ISA, ATEX) and project specifications.

Familiarity with safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality management systems in the oil and gas industry.
