Your role and responsibilities

As a Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Specialist, you will contribute to improving HSE performance within your assigned area of responsibility, fostering a culture of high performance with a strong focus on HSE. You will support the business by applying in-depth HSE knowledge, offering solutions, and providing guidance. You will ensure effective risk management by driving HSE excellence throughout ABB's value chain. This position is part of ABB Canada's Electrification, Smart Buildings division and is based in Dorval. The work model is hybrid, with four days per week onsite at the plant. Responsibilities: • Facilitate HSE risk assessments conducted by management and ensure that all necessary preventive measures against identified hazards are implemented. • Report HSE incidents to relevant stakeholders and take appropriate action. • Facilitate, assist, and provide guidance on incident investigations to identify better ways to mitigate risks. • Provide feedback to stakeholders and employees on lessons learned and best practices within their unit and across ABB. • Assist the HSE Team Leader in communicating progress on HSE objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs) at the group level, where applicable. • Help managers and supervisors understand their HSE obligations, responsibilities, and legal requirements, as well as group or company-specific standards. • Support and drive behavioral changes by implementing corporate and group-wide performance improvement programs and practices locally. • Promote and enforce an exemplary HSE culture, with a strong focus on environmental considerations, across the organization. • Ensure that appropriate HSE equipment and tools are available and used effectively. • Contribute to or lead HSE-related projects, including planning and execution. • Define project objectives and report progress to the HSE Team Leader and stakeholders. • Implement ABB's policies and standards within the assigned area and ensure audits are conducted. • Drive compliance with ABB's group management systems. • Leverage workers' expertise and knowledge to better understand real work processes, continuously improving systems and controls. • Engage with external (e.g., clients, suppliers, regulatory authorities) and internal stakeholders to report on ABB's HSE efforts and performance, raise awareness, gain commitment, and receive objective feedback. • Collaborate with other departments and business partners to enhance HSE performance. • Identify training needs, plan, and deliver training sessions for employees, site managers, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications for the role

  • College diploma (DEC), university degree, or any other relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).
  • Bilingual (French and English). French is required. English is required to communicate with clients outside Quebec.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, Power BI, Planner, Power Apps, etc.).
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 & 45001 standards, RSST, LSST, and other HSE regulations.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset.
  • Strong initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in project management to drive continuous HSE improvement.
