Are you ready to join our team as a Laboratory Technician and make a significant impact in the energy industry? As a Lab Technician, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research and development projects for a major energy company, located in Richmond, California.
Role Overview
- Operate complex distillation and process laboratory equipment, including large and small reactors, research units, and distillation columns.
- Maintain round-the-clock operations under the direction of the supervisor/lead technician or operator.
- Work with elevated temperatures, high pressures, and atmospheric and sub-atmospheric pressures.
- Participate in Operational Excellence (OE) initiatives individually, on your crew, and as part of the ESU team.
- Follow a rotating 12-hour day shift schedule (5:00 - 5:00) on a refinery operations schedule.
- Operate process units, utility systems, and related equipment in accordance with the requests of research scientists and engineers.
- Ensure equipment is properly inspected to detect any unsafe or improperly functioning equipment.
- Provide support in sample handling activities for research and crude assay samples for internal and external customers and other internal labs.
- Meet OE objectives and milestones.
Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma required; Associate degree or equivalent in science, technology, mechanical/pipe fitting trade, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in plant and/or lab operations, plant equipment and maintenance, or mechanical background work.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with process equipment and/or instrument technology.
- Experience with OE for labs preferred.
- Knowledge of ROP (Refinery Operator Training), chemicals, heavy oil and distillate research, or related materials a plus.
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems, Excel, and Word software.
- Strong communication skills and commitment to Operational Excellence in lab and office environments.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with key colleagues outside of immediate work group.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Associate degree or equivalent in science, technology, mechanical/pipe fitting trade, or related field preferred.
