Your role and responsibilities
The successful candidate will operate as the Field Application Engineer (FAE) for the ABB Critical Power business in the central/western US. In this role you will be the technical lead at consulting engineers, end users, EPCs and design build customers, ensuring ABB products and solutions achieve a preferred/acceptable manufacturer status in project specifications and end user Approved Vendor Lists. The FAE will be tightly integrated with the local sales team and must be highly proficient in applying UPS/battery, power conditioning, power distribution (including paralleling switchgear), transfer switch and arc flash mitigation technologies in markets such as healthcare, data center, industrial, utility and commercial construction. The work model for the role is remote. Relocation assistance eligible for this role. This role is contributing to the Electrification Smart Power division in Cary, NC. You will be mainly accountable for: • Collaborate with consultant engineer, end user and EPC customers to define electrical project needs, supply design assistance, product selection, value engineering, budgeting & provide education on ABB solutions to gain acceptance of the same into project specifications. • Review and evaluate project specifications and end-user customer requirements to provide electrical solutions including one-line electrical diagrams, schematic diagrams, lay-out & equipment drawings, equipment specifications and project budget pricing for critical power applications. • Review and evaluate project specifications, one-line electrical diagrams, and end-user customer requirements to create a formal take-off and CD&E. • For specific customers, create and maintain "specification heat maps" to communicate specification position for each Critical Power product. • Accountable for incorporating best practices and developing accurate estimates of the electrical project budget. • Be the local product expert in the following products and applications: UPS/battery systems, power conditioning, power distribution (including paralleling switchgear), transfer switch and arc flash mitigation. • Have a working knowledge of short circuit coordination and arc flash mitigation concepts and the ability to illustrate their benefit via tools such as SKM or Easy Power. • Accountable for creating, editing and doing presentations for Lunch & Learns and utilizing SFDC on a regular basis. • Customer education: be a strong public speaker; comfortable developing and articulating complex technical concepts to engineers, contractors and end users. • Thought leadership: participate in and develop papers for IEEE and other industry events/conferences to raise awareness of ABB solutions. • Bring voice of the customer on new product opportunities, product gaps and market trends to commercial and product management leadership for action. Participate as a Product Champion in your assigned area. • Prepare project analysis information such as: technical detail, risk assessment and financials for discussion with commercial leadership.

Qualifications for the role
- Bachelor's degree in engineering; preferably electrical with a minimum of six (6) years of experience in the electrical distribution industry or a Master's degree with four (4) years of experience in the same.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple concurrent projects and assignments.
- Capability to establish and nurture partnership relationships with the regional engineering consultant community.
- PE certification is a plus
- Previous field, factory or design engineering experience in electrical power systems at data center, hospital or industrial facilities
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards; ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, NFPA 70E, UL
- Up to 25% domestic travel
