Your role and responsibilities
We are looking for an R&D Team Manager at ABB Oy, Marine and Ports division in Vuosaari, Helsinki. In this position, you will be working in our Marine Propulsion technology department. One of your main responsibilities will be overseeing a team of Research and Development (R&D) professionals, supporting them in reaching the agreed R&D targets. You will be coaching and developing the team, guiding the management of technologies, and Intellectual Property (IP) while working in close co-operation with internal and external stakeholders. Azipod® propulsion is a gearless steerable propulsion system where the electric drive motor is in a submerged pod outside the ship hull. Azipod® units can rotate 360 degrees to increase maneuverability and operating efficiency. You will be mainly accountable for: • Overseeing the development of dedicated Azipod technology R&D initiatives from concepting to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budget, and quality standards • Supporting in creation and implementing of new technology and product roadmaps, enhancing and promoting a culture of innovation within the team • Managing and motivating assigned internal and external resources, applying ABB's HR policies; talent management through coaching, performance feedback and providing development and career opportunities for team members • Planning capacity, people and resources for R&D projects; allocating work/tasks to team members and over-seeing workload within the team • Developing and acquiring necessary abilities for the development of future products and systems • Overseeing efficient, timely and superior quality project implementation and ensuring financial and content supervision over projects • Supporting R&D project managers in developing project budgets and ensuring efficient use of funds • Ensuring that R&D and intellectual property risks are properly managed

Qualifications for the role
- M.Sc. or B.Sc. degree in an appropriate field of engineering
- Proficient problem-solving skills
- A collaborative, solutions-oriented approach with articulate communication skills; good English language skills are mandatory in the position
- Experience managing R&D projects, including planning, budgeting, and follow-up is expected
- Experience in managing technical experts is expected
- Considerable experience in R&D within the marine sector is valued
- Occasional traveling, from 10 to 20 days per year, is required in this role to meet customers and suppliers
