Your role and responsibilities

Under the direction of the Product Engineering and Reliability Manager, the Product Engineering Electrical Engineer performs a variety of engineering assignments and projects in support of Technical Product Owners through product lifecycle. Performs electrical engineering tasks to develop, maintain, and improve designs belonging to the local USABB Product Engineering Team. Perform advanced engineering work, advanced computations, analysis, and electronics design tasks. Proactively seeks and implements initiatives to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction. The work model for the role is: onsite. #LI-Onsite This role is contributing to the Motion Drive Products Division in New Berlin, WI. You will be mainly accountable for: • Main owner of circuit designs, power electronics, and PCBAs for products which USABB PE has product ownership. • Monitor designs for product improvements, analyze and perform corrective actions for field quality issues. Write and implement ECNs related to these issues. • Perform complex testing to validate designs, qualify critical components and verify agency compliance. • Coordinate design changes at the product platform level with the Global Product Engineering Team. • Drive quality improvement and cost reduction activities for product responsible designs. • Participate in quality problem solving activities to resolve customer and Production issues. Assist implementation of quality improvement and cost reduction activities. • Maintain schematic and PCB design files, bills of materials, approved vendor lists, and manufacturing files for product responsible designs.

Qualifications for the role

  • Bachelor of Science or better in electrical or electronics engineering with 2+ years' experience with electronics design in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient with schematic capture software. Experience with PCB layout highly desirable. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, product configuration tables and tools, and bills of materials, especially in conjunction with an ERP system (SAP).
  • Ability to use advanced test equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and environmental chambers. Knowledge of testing at voltages from 230-600V and a strong motivation to put safety first.
  • Candidate must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the United States.
  • Preferred Requirements (at least one of the following):
  • Experience designing thyristor control circuits and IGBT gate drivers with fault protection, switch mode power supplies especially related to buck and flyback topologies
  • Knowledge of power electronics for motor control and AC motor drives
  • Experience with microcontroller system design and analog circuits, multilayer PCB design and good layout principles
  • Familiarity with agency requirements such as UL, CSA, CE, OSHPD, etc.
