Join Our Team as a Management Associate - Drill and Blast Engineer!

Steel is excited to offer an incredible opportunity for motivated individuals to join our Minnesota Ore Operations at our Minntac and Keetac Mines in Mt. Iron and Keewatin.

About the Role: As a Management Associate - Drill and Blast Engineer, you'll be part of our entry-level program designed to accelerate your professional development. Over 12-24 months, you'll receive comprehensive training across multiple functional areas, gaining valuable experience and skills. This program is designed to strengthen leadership capabilities to prepare the college graduate for advanced roles within our operations or in a number of disciplines that support our operations.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Apply your geologic and engineering problem-solving skills in an open-pit mining environment.
  • Collaborate closely with the Drill and Blast supervisor to enhance practices.
  • Produce daily and weekly Drill and Blast plans.
  • Design Blast Patterns using appropriate burden and spacing.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report blast movement and performance data.
  • Set up seismographs and extract readings to monitor ground vibrations and air blasts.
  • Work on projects related to Fragmentation Optimization with stakeholders.
  • Supervise and direct unionized employees to ensure efficiency and safety.
  • Consult with and direct mine production personnel to execute mine plans successfully.

Candidate Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Mining Engineering.
  • Must have at least a 2.75 GPA, will accept 2.5 with experience.
  • Graduated within the last three years from an accredited college or university at the time of hire.
  • Extensive computer skills and ability to learn new software's quickly.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written skills.
  • Ability to multitask and to work independently.
  • A willingness and eagerness to learn from others in the organization.
  • This is a safety sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing.

Preferred Skills:
We are looking for motivated self-starters that can work in a fast paced, data-driven environment. The successful undergraduate will be an analytical problem solver, have an extremely high level of customer focus and a passion for process improvement. In addition, a successful intern will have:
  • Experience with Mine Planning Software
  • A willingness and eagerness to learn from others in the organization.
  • Demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and an aptitude for your area of study.
  • A strong record of team, project and/or people leadership in a work setting and/or extracurricular activities.
  • A willingness to take initiative to understand the business.
  • An aptitude for problem solving; strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong commitment to excellence and to personal and professional growth.
  • Must be resourceful, responsible, tenacious, curious, independent, confident and high energy.
  • The ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks..
  • Leadership and strong decision-making skills.
  • Ability to think and act both strategically and tactically.

The base salary of $73,608.30 is a good faith estimate. Based on candidate skills/experience the final offer may be lower/higher.
