The Mining Engineer is a critical contributor to Clyde Companies' hard rock, sand, and gravel mining operations. This position is responsible for designing efficient mining/reclamation and extraction plans, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations, and advancing sustainable resource management strategies to meet production goals.

JOB OVERVIEW:
The Mining Engineer is a critical contributor to Clyde Companies' hard rock, sand, and gravel mining operations. This position is responsible for designing efficient mining/reclamation and extraction plans, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations, and advancing sustainable resource management strategies to meet production goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mining/Reclamation:
- Develop, update, and maintain detailed mining and reclamation plans to optimize resource extraction while adhering to regulatory and operational standards.
- Monitor operational compliance with approved mining plans and permit conditions.
- Plan and execute reclamation activities to restore mined areas to a sustainable and environmentally sound state.
- Conduct site visits to evaluate mining and reclamation activities, ensuring adherence to plans (slopes, setbacks, boundaries, sequence, etc.) and compliance with environmental standards.
- Perform volumetric reserve estimations, resource modeling, and comprehensive reserve calculations.
- Calculate mining/reclamation surety bonds.
- Participate in state regulator site inspections for industry compliance.
- Conduct property due diligence, including the evaluation of mining and reclamation plans, ensuring compliance with current approved plans.
- Prepare and submit annual environmental reports including:
- Large Mine Progress Reports, Small Mine Progress Reports, Limited Mine Progress Reports, and Minerals Reclamation Permit Reports.
Training and Coordination:
- Provide on-site mining and reclamation compliance training.
- Support annual group training sessions and preparation of training content.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mining plans with other operations.
- Train team members on mining plans, operational standards, and compliance requirements.
- Act a liaison between regulatory agencies and Clyde Companies subsidiaries.
Land Use/Conditional Use Permits (CUP):
- Manage conditional use/land use permitting and review on-site conditional use permits/land use permits, conducting annual evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with zoning laws and regulations, including conditional use permits.
- Conduct property due diligence, evaluating land use/zoning and conditional use permit requirements.
- Coordinate property ALTA Surveys.
Water Rights:
- Manage water right applications, water usage monitoring, and water right reporting.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- In-depth knowledge of the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (SMCRA). Understanding of SMCRA's provisions, regulatory standards for surface mining operations, reclamation requirements. Proficient in navigating the Code of Federal Regulations (30 CFR Parts 700-999) and ensuring compliance with performance bonds, permit applications, and environmental protection standards.
- Proficient in state-specific mining regulations and permitting processes within the Intermountain West, including Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Nevada, and Arizona.
- Strong understanding of mining operations, resource planning, and permitting requirements.
- Competent with AutoCAD software, Propeller, or other mining-related tools.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail in managing documentation and data.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills for collaboration with teams and regulatory agencies.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills for effective plan development.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Mining/Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- 4-10 years of experience in mine planning, permitting, or remediation.
- Proficient with environmental monitoring technologies, data analysis, and regulatory frameworks.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to perform office tasks and manage field inspections.
- 10% travel required for site assessments and data collection.
