Summary of Function
The HVAC Technician is responsible for providing skilled Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) services with specific responsibility for identifying repair and/or replacement needs; installing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading HVAC and Energy Management Control Systems (EMCS) and equipment in accordance with industry best practices; ensuring that all work is done according to design specifications, state and local building codes, and applicable regulations.

Indoor and outdoor environment. Manages all job duties with the mobility, agility, dexterity, and focused observation it takes to meet standards of performance. Moderate environmental conditions and noise levels. Prolonged periods of standing. Exposure to fumes and gases. Must be able to handle stressful situations calmly and with consideration of other persons.
Physical requirements
Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion and movement is required to perform aspects of the job. Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, push, or pull heavy objects and materials. Assistance is available as required to perform physically demanding tasks. Work involves standing and moving for extended periods of time, requires moving from one location to another, reaching, bending, stooping, crawling, turning, holding and grasping objects. Verbal communication ability required.
Equipment, Aids, Tools and Materials
Uses office equipment which includes but is not limited to: computers, video projectors, white boards, and office or instructional equipment. FUSD recognizes that ever changing development of technology but expects all staff to keep abreast of changing technology opportunities and use tools and devices provided to them. Uses vehicle transportation which includes but is not limited to: buses, vans, trucks and other motor vehicles. Uses tools commonly found in a maintenance department.

Communicates verbally and in writing. Reads. Analyze and evaluate data and reports. Develop, implement and evaluate plans. Manages own work environment. Promotes learning and ensures safety. Perform functions from written and oral instruction and from observing and listening to others.

Summary of Function

Qualifications include:
- High School diploma or equivalent certification required.
- Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card required within 30 days of hire.
- Valid Arizona Driver's license with 24 months of clean driving record.
- HVAC maintenance and repair experience required.
- HVAC Technician Certification preferred.
- EPA Certification-Freon Capture and Recovery preferred.
- Forklift certification preferred.
Duties and responsibilities
- Installs, maintains and repairs heating, ventilation, air conditioning and equipment and systems to optimize energy use.
- Cleans air conditioning and heating units (e.g. coils, condensation pans, drain lines, cooling towers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring units are operating efficiently, correctly, and within safety guidelines.
- Coordinators with supervisor and other trades (e.g. inspectors, suppliers, contractors, district personnel, consultants, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects and work orders.
- Diagnoses causes of problems and/or failures in HVAC systems and energy management control systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or system repairs and/or replacement needs ensuring responsive and corrective action for urgent building operation items, indoor air quality, thermal comfort patterns.
- Estimates labor, materials, and/or equipment parts for the purpose of ensuring timely completion of projects and/or work orders.
- Fabricates or coordinates the fabrication of equipment parts for the purpose of meeting special needs and/or replacing unavailable parts.
- Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations.
- Installs HVAC equipment and systems (e.g. actuators, compressors, building control systems, DDC sensors, heat pumps, alarm systems, control panels, energy management control systems, pressure reducing valves, etc.) for the purpose of providing enhanced and/or upgraded capabilities.
- Maintains clean and orderly conditions in all working areas for the purpose of observing all safety practices and regulations.
- Maintains records (e.g. equipment repair history, work orders, test reports, etc.) for the purpose of documenting the required information.
- Maintains vehicle, tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating conditions.
- Monitors HVAC systems and their components (e.g. heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, etc) for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive and predictive maintenance.
- Performs emergency, predictive and preventive maintenance to ensure the ongoing functions of HVAC systems.
- Analyzes blueprints, schematics, and drawings for the purpose of identifying the location of new and existing HVAC systems and determining the efficient installation of additional systems.
- Test and maintain water on boilers District wide.
- Assists with snow removal.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
