Our Rail business is actively involved in several major programmes that are shaping the future of transportation infrastructure. These include the TransPennine Route Upgrade, Southern Renewals Enterprise, East Coast Digital Programme, HS2, and East West Rail. Each of these initiatives plays a crucial role in enhancing connectivity, improving rail services, and driving innovation within the industry. Additionally, we deliver Network Rail frameworks across our professional services disciplines, further demonstrating our commitment to excellence and our ability to provide comprehensive solutions. Our dedication to these projects reflects our passion for delivering high-quality services and contributing to the advancement of the rail sector.

This person will share our passion to solve problems that matter and be recognised as an industry leader. It requires a strategic thinker with a robust technical and/or commercial background that provides the foundation for either direct or transferable skills to the Sector and someone with a growth mindset. Seeking opportunity in everything we deliver, the relationships we form and the interfaces we have with our Rail clients will provide a dynamic individual with constant development and challenge.
The key focus will be to develop the Rail sector nationally through strategic relationships and strategies to expand our current footprint. You will report to the Transportation Sector Director for Complex Infrastructure, Project and Programme Services UK and be part of our senior leadership team. The role requires a natural ability to collaborate with our existing teams to grow the business. We offer the flexibility to work from any of our UK Hubs.

Your Purpose:
- This opportunity is strategically client focused, and you will be integral to the growth of our Rail business.
- You will have a large degree of autonomy allowing you to develop and pursue opportunities and develop the sector strategy, building on our current market presence.
- A key responsibility will be to build and deliver the market business strategy and to drive work generation.
- The primary objective of the role is to increase market share through strategy development and implementation to enable new key accounts, generating a pipeline of proposals and profitable sales/business opportunities.
- Whilst previous experience of doing this is desirable the business will provide the necessary support to develop individuals with the right approach.
- The ability or potential to identify and win new profitable business through competitive tender is fundamental to the success of this role along with your ability to secure repeat business from clients.
- The role will require drawing on an existing professional network or building a network to build on the current reputation in the marketplace and developing new strategic relationships with key client stakeholders.
- The role requires working closely with our Practices to provide visibility of pipeline to inform recruitment strategies, mobilising teams to deliver new work and continuously engaging with clients to ensure service delivery satisfaction.
- You will adopt a continuous improvement mindset and sharing of best practice across our markets.
- Positive, collaborative and engaging behavioural traits are equally critical to the role as is a technical and/or commercial background with relevant or transferable skills.
- The role involves meeting and working with senior internal and external stakeholders and with the breadth and depth of our delivery teams.
- The ability to motivate others for them to perform to their potential and develop to the next level is a key aspect of the role.
What you can bring:
- Recognised leader in specialist discipline with well-established industry networks.
- Proven ability to network and influence at peer levels.
- Excellent commercial skills - the ability to apply commercial acumen to understand profitability.
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills, both internally and externally.
- Significant experience in all aspects of Rail and Transportation.
- Experience of growing, mentoring and leading teams through key account management skills.
- Experience of bidding and winning work.
- Experience of working closely with clients/contractors on major infrastructure projects.
- Significant experience of working closely with public sector leaders.
Desirable Experience and Skills:
- Profit and loss accountability.
- Have an established client base and contacts within the construction industry.
- Advanced understanding and use of construction contracts (e.g. NEC form of contract).
Desirable Academic Qualifications:
- Relevant degree with sufficient and appropriate consulting experience or equivalent.
- Ideally, Chartered member of an appropriate professional institution such as ICE, RICS etc.
