TITLE: SUPERVISOR, POWER SYSTEM TECHNICAL
LOCATION: VEAZIE, MAINE (GRAHAM STATION)
REPORTS TO: SUPERINTENDENT, POWER SYSTEM TECHNICAL
POSITION STATUS: EXEMPT, NON-BARGAINING UNIT

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The PST Supervisor assists the Superintendent in the implementation of the operating, maintenance and capital improvement goals of the Power System Technical Department including all appropriate planning and reporting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Responsible for maintenance and capital projects related to MEPCO facilities.
  • Responsible for Relay maintenance and test procedures.
  • Responsible for power line carrier and microwave systems maintenance and installations.
  • Responsible for SCADA systems maintenance and installations.
  • Responsible for Breaker/Power Transformer Maintenance.
  • Responsible for Bangor Underground Distribution Network.
  • Assists in review, analysis and interpretation of inspection and testing results within the maintenance plan for PST.
  • Responsible for Substation Construction activities.
  • Responsible for the PST/Company's compliance issues as mandated by outside entities such as MPUC, FERC, ISO, NERC, NPCC etc.
  • Responsible for Instrument Rated Meter testing and maintenance.
  • Assists in Engineering design, drawings and material specifications for all customer meter installations, ensuring the Company's metering policies, procedures and practices comply with all State and National Regulations and Codes.
  • Assists in designing, developing, and maintaining various meter programs for solid-state meters and other related technologies.
  • Fills in for the other PST Supervisor's or PST Superintendent during vacations, sicknesses, and other absences.
  • Assists and/or performs training of Bargaining Unit employees as it relates to assigned areas.
  • Directs and supervises the work of the Bargaining Unit employees assigned to him/her by the Superintendent.
  • Becomes familiar with Versant Power's electrical system and develops a thorough knowledge of all electrical apparatus used throughout the system.
  • Ensures proper safety compliance of all crew members.
  • Responsible for completing Supervisor Job Observation Reports.
  • Reviews System Operators Daily Log.
  • Complies with all applicable Safety Rules.
  • Works in accordance with the documented environmental procedures, instructions, and specific responsibilities as defined in individual procedures and instructions. Reports problems or deviations associated with environmental issues and the Environmental Management System (EMS) to the Environmental Department.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Other related duties as assigned, including designated duties associated with System Restoration (Storm related and other events).
  • Administrative work required in the assigned areas and any other assigned area.
  • Participates on a rotational basis as Call Duty Supervisor.

REQUIRED OR PREFERRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Associate's degree in electrical Power, Electronics or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of electrical utility experience required, 7 - 10 years preferred.
  • Requires strong initiative and ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Position requires the incumbent to acquire and maintain a valid State of Maine Class B Commercial Driver's license.
  • Participation is required in Controlled Substances and Alcohol Use and Testing Program as prescribed by the US Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, Part 382, including pre-employment and random testing.
  • Position requires identity verification and seven-year criminal background check with update at least every seven years pursuant to NERC standards.

  • Sitting, standing, walking, and driving.
  • Lifting up to 50 Lbs.
  • Position regularly requires work in outside weather conditions.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Position may be stressful due to deadlines.
  • Position requires valid Maine Driver's License.
  • Position requires extra and irregular hours.

WORK HOURS:

Usual work hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Extra work hours may be required (Weekends/ Holidays) for System Events.

PAY:

Pay will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Further pay information will be available during the interview process.
