As a Buyer/Planner, you will work closely with inventory, sales volume, product cost, scheduling, and customer demands to ensure order meet all customer requirements and due dates. Efficiently supporting company objectives, the Buyer/Planner will be responsible for maintaining inventory levels on manufactured components. You also will manage commodities that involve detailed/complex specifications and increased costs while planning, scheduling, and coordinating the delivery and movement of critical materials to meet facility schedules and customer deliverables.

JOB SUMMARY
As a Buyer/Planner, you will work closely with inventory, sales volume, product cost, scheduling, and customer demands to ensure order meet all customer requirements and due dates. Efficiently supporting company objectives, the Buyer/Planner will be responsible for maintaining inventory levels on manufactured components. You also will manage commodities that involve detailed/complex specifications and increased costs while planning, scheduling, and coordinating the delivery and movement of critical materials to meet facility schedules and customer deliverables.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Outsource Buyer
- Reviews requests for assigned materials, parts and/or services and verifies specifications. Sources components or services and ensures timely preparation and communication of RFQ (Request for Quote).
- Negotiates price, quality, delivery, and terms. Selects supplier and places purchase orders while assuring compliance to local and Corporate Operating Procedures and Ethical Code of Conduct.
- Expedites delivery of items by contacting vendors and shippers to ensure that merchandise, supplies, and equipment are forwarded on specified shipping date.
- Will assist with qualifying and auditing suppliers to ensure their capabilities meet our requirements
- Works with Materials Management to evaluate inventory supply and reordering, lead time requirements, and expiration dates
- Review non-conformances and engineering changes to rework any work orders as required.
- Develops and maintains supplier relationships on an on-going basis. Tracks computerized procurement records of items or services purchased, costs, on-time delivery, quality, and performance. Evaluates supplier performance and recommends additions or deletions to the approved supplier database. Identifies and qualifies new suppliers.
- Identifies cost savings opportunities and assists in developing innovative approaches to supply chain management to achieve yearly cost reduction targets set by executive team. Participates in setting objectives for projects
- Coordinate contract agreements between suppliers and NOV in collaboration with Procurement Manager/Supervisor
- Works with Engineering to understand technical requirements needed for procured parts and collaborates and works with suppliers to ensure these requirements can be met
Foundry Planning
- Works with Global Materials Group teams in reviewing forecast and operations plans to ensure purchasing of goods and services are planned accordingly to meet demand.
- Actively participate in planning phases of jobs as well as large-scale projects.
- Create Shop packets including router, assembly/machine/weld drawing's, SOP's, MTR's, weld/ coating specifications.
- Monitor progress of the orders through the shop floor to ensure WIP is on track to meet need date.
- Work closely with department supervisors to determine progress of work and completion dates; inventory levels and solving production problems.
- Coordinate with Shipping and Receiving to schedule shipment and receipt of material.
- Process all material requirements as dictated by sales order, work order or applicable specifications, when needed.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED - Associates degree, preferred.
- 3+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in Buying, Purchasing, Inventory or Planning.
- A minimum of 2-5 years of experience with a working knowledge of procurement methods and procedures and processes.
- Experience with Ductile Iron, Gray Iron, and Cast Iron is preferred.
- Experience with Castings, Molds, Chemistry, Metallurgy, and Casting Sand is preferred.
- APICS CPIM certification required; must have willingness to obtain if not certified.
- Proficiency with the following computer software: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook. Must quickly adapt to learning new software.
- Prior experience with ERP or MRP software, inventory management and/or bill of materials. JDE experience is preferred.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to pass a drug screen & background check.
- Must be able to work under pressure to achieve deadlines.
- Ability to meet or exceed standards as established by the department.
- Intermediate technical and broad knowledge of commodities or related procured materials.
- Ability to coordinate and execute multiple projects simultaneously with the capacity to work independently, coupled with the ability to plan and perform work with minimal direction and supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to model customer-focused behaviors leading to outstanding customer experiences.
- Strong professional relationship building skills, and ability to interface across the entire enterprise (Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, PM&L, Trade Compliance, Accounting, etc.).
- Strong data analytical skills and capability of understanding technical documentation and standards (machine drawings, material specifications and classifications, etc.).
- Must be able to understand Quality Inspection Plans and implement them onto job routers.
- Must be able to navigate engineering portal and able to read/understand engineering prints.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven demonstration of effective and efficient interfacing with all levels of employees, vendors, and customers.
- Adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands, projects, and priorities.
- Must possess math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
