Your role and responsibilities

We are looking for a skilled Network and System Engineer to join our team at ABB Marine & Ports in Vuosaari, Helsinki. In this role, you will design and develop Ethernet-based communication networks that support PLC-type devices and monitoring systems across our automation platforms. You will play a key role in integrating secure, scalable network infrastructures that enable reliable operation of advanced marine automation systems. We are looking for a technically curious and detail-oriented individual with a strong foundation in industrial networking, system integration, and cybersecurity. You will be mainly accountable for: • Designing Ethernet-based networks for automation systems and marine environments • Configuring managed Ethernet switches and supporting the setup of network infrastructure • Collaborating in the integration of server-based systems and automation platforms (e.g., 800xA) • Preparing and configuring industrial computers and system software • Supporting cyber secure architecture design and implementation in line with marine and industry standards • Working closely with project teams, cybersecurity experts, and system engineers • Developing documentation and contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering practices

Qualifications for the role

• Master's degree in Engineering or equivalent technical qualification
• Strong understanding of industrial networking, Ethernet protocols, and system design
• Familiarity with system integration, automation platforms (e.g., 800xA), and Windows/Linux server environments
• Demonstrated interest or experience in cybersecurity for industrial control systems
• Ability to work independently as well as in multidisciplinary teams
• Programming skills and scripting capabilities (e.g., Python, PowerShell) are considered a strong advantage
• Fluent English communication skills and willingness to travel occasionally
