Purpose:

The Power Systems and Commissioning Manager for Knobelsdorff operates in the Power Services division and coordinates the Project Engineering and Commissioning objectives of the company. They contribute to a positive working culture, build strong relationships, and live out the values of safety, people, passion, and performance. This role requires a strong technical background in electrical power and control systems, as well as excellent leadership and project management skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality, innovative solutions. The successful candidate will oversee a team of field engineers and technicians and assist in building a team of electrical engineers and designers.

Responsibilities:

Power System Design:
  • Develop and design electrical power systems for various applications, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and compliance with industry standards. The candidate should have working knowledge and experience with SKM, ETAP, SmartDraw, ACAD, MATLAB, and/or other programs related to electrical system development, modeling, and studies.

Analysis and Optimization:
  • Conduct detailed analysis and simulations to optimize power system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements.

Project Management:
  • Lead or contribute to power systems projects, overseeing the entire lifecycle from conception to implementation.

Technical Documentation:
  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including specifications, reports, and design drawings. The potential candidate should have in-depth working knowledge of microprocessor-based relays, SCADA systems, RTU's, HMI's, event analysis and interpretation using tools like synchrowave, the creation of protective relay settings and construction of settings in native files such as .rdb, .elc, etc.

Collaboration:
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including project managers, electrical engineers, and clients, to ensure successful project delivery.

Testing and Commissioning:
  • Perform and support testing and commissioning activities, ensuring that power systems meet design specifications and client requirements. This will include both field support with travel and phone/computer support. The potential candidate should have in-depth working knowledge of testing and commissioning processes of all apparatus including transformers, microprocessor-based relays, instrument transformers, protection and control systems, breakers, etc. The candidate should be able to analyze all data for passing or failing throughout the electrical system. The candidate should be able to communicate with other entities such as utilities for end-end testing, development of test plans, and test equipment interface offsets for proper timing of devices.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years' management experience of technical or engineering resources.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in transmission level, brown-field substation commissioning including temporary circuits installation and removal.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of communications protocols such as Modbus, SEL ASCII, IEC 61850, DNP3, MultiSpeak, and ICCP.
  • Proficient in developing test plans, O&M manuals, primary injection plans, LOTO plans, and energization plans.
  • Proven experience in power systems design and analysis.
  • Experience in relevant software tools, such as but not limited to, ACAD, MATLAB, SKM, Etap, acSELerator, Synchrowave.
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes and standards.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proven communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, walk, and sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be capable of working in inclement conditions to include extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 75 lbs.
