The Process Competences team at Corporate Real Estate (CRE) consists of 7 chemical engineers. We are the functional owner of critical assets at ASML, Veldhoven such as process gases, chemicals, ultra-pure water, pre-vacuum systems etc. The team provides crucial input into strategic roadmaps and masterplans necessary to ensure a safe, reliable and sustainable operation of assets. One of our key focus areas is to drive the advancement of sustainable and efficient processes by researching, developing, and implementing cutting-edge technologies.

Your assignment

Hydrogen is critical for semiconductor manufacturing. With the advancements in the semiconductor technology, the use of Hydrogen is increasing. You will play a leading role in researching and exploring various on-site hydrogen generation technologies. This internship will focus on comparing and evaluating different hydrogen generation methods in terms of efficiency, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with national regulations. You will contribute to identifying the most suitable technologies for implementation at our facilities, taking into account safety standards, environmental considerations, and technological feasibility.

Key responsibilities:
  • Research and Comparative Analysis:
    Investigate and analyze various on-site hydrogen generation technologies, including but not limited to electrolysis, steam methane reforming (SMR) with carbon capture, and other renewable hydrogen production methods.
  • Data Compilation:
    Collect and compile relevant data on each technology, including operational costs, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Regulatory and Compliance Analysis:
    Review national regulations and industry standards related to hydrogen production, storage, and safety. Ensure the evaluated technologies are in line with regulatory requirements and any potential limitations.
  • Technology Feasibility and Impact Assessment:
    Assess the feasibility of deploying each hydrogen generation method in the context of ASML's operations. Identify any technical or operational challenges.
  • Presentation and Reporting:
    Prepare detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings, including comparative charts, regulatory considerations, and recommended approaches for further exploration.
  • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
    Work closely with senior engineers, project managers, permit managers and other team members to align research findings with business objectives.
Your profile

To be the perfect match for this internship, you:
  • Are a master student in Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering;
  • Have a strong affinity with Chemical and Process Technology;
  • Have a basic understanding of hydrogen generation processes and energy systems;
  • Have a open mindset and are a true connector;
  • Have great communication skills in English.

This is a master graduation project for 5 days per week, for minimum 6 months (preferably 9 months). The start date of this internship is September 2025.

Other requirements you need to meet:
  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
  • Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship. In case you 're currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.
  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
