Job Overview:

A Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures and administering radiopharmaceuticals to patients. This role involves working closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient care and accurate imaging results. Our Nuclear Medicine Technologists typically work in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and diagnostic imaging centers. They travel between these facilities on a day-to-day basis as needed; typically filling in for other techs who are sick, on paternity leave, or on vacation. In addition, we serve a number of customers lacking full time technologists routinely

Job Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Patient Interaction:
    1. Prepare and educate patients about nuclear medicine procedures.
    2. Obtain medical histories and explain the risks and benefits of the procedure.
  • Radiopharmaceutical Administration:
    1. Administer radiopharmaceuticals via injection, inhalation, or oral routes as per physician's orders.
    2. Monitor patients for adverse reactions post-administration.
  • Imaging Procedures:
    1. Operate imaging equipment, such as gamma cameras and PET scanners, to capture diagnostic images.
    2. Position patients correctly to obtain optimal imaging results.
  • Quality Control:
    1. Conduct regular maintenance and quality checks on imaging equipment to ensure proper functioning.
    2. Adhere to safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure for patients and staff.
  • Data Analysis:
    1. Analyze and interpret imaging results, collaborating with physicians to develop treatment plans.
    2. Maintain accurate records of procedures, patient information, and imaging results.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    1. Follow state and federal regulations regarding the use of radioactive materials.
    2. Ensure all practices comply with hospital policies and safety standards.

Job Requirements / Skills / Education:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or a related field.
  • Certification from a recognized body (e.g., NMTCB or ARRT).
  • Strong knowledge of nuclear medicine procedures and safety protocols.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Physical and Intellectual Requirements:

Manual dexterity for manipulating small items; regularly lift at least 50 pounds throughout each shift and to be able to lift 75 pounds on occasion. Able to handle standing, walking and sitting for 4+ hours with limited rest intervals; good eye-hand coordination; fair eyesight (with or without correction lenses); normal hearing in at least one ear (hearing range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz); ability to analyze situations, set priorities and meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail in a fast-paced and dynamic environment; effective organizational skills; a commitment to continuous learning; an ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
