Role Synopsis:

The Senior DevOps Engineer leads operational excellence for bp Customer Identity and Consent Platforms. This hands-on role combines site reliability engineering (SRE) principles, observability leadership, and incident management to ensure the platforms deliver scalable, highly available, and self-service-ready experiences for both consumers and internal development teams. You help evolve operational models, automate issue resolution, and build a culture of proactive service support while shaping the next generation of platform operations.

Key Accountabilities:

• Ensure the reliability, performance, and scalability of large-scale, cloud-based applications and infrastructure.
• Develop and implement automated solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
• Monitor applications and websites to guarantee smooth and efficient performance.
• Identify and address system issues, managing failures to maintain uptime and reliability.
• Collaborate with software developers, engineers, and operations teams to optimize system performance.
• Define and continuously enhance platform metrics, health indicators, and alerts to bolster availability observability.
• Implement automated solutions for incident resolution to ensure proactive platform stability, with the aim of identifying issues before they impact consumers.
• This role requires participation in an on-call rotation for P1/P2 major incidents.

Essential Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT Operations, or a related technical field.
• Proficiency in Python, Ruby, and JavaScript development, including frameworks such as React, Angular, and Next.js.
• Expertise in scripting languages such as Bash or PowerShell.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Proven experience delivering observability for global platforms at scale with high availability.
• Familiarity with metrics or monitoring tools, with the ability to query observability data (e.g., Grafana, ELK stack, Splunk).
• Logical approach to investigation and troubleshooting.
• Curiosity and technical aptitude to deepen knowledge of identity solutions and platforms over time.
• Knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and tools, along with a willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing environments.
• Manage Azure DevOps for efficient CICD processes, ensuring seamless integration and deployment.
• Experience in building and scaling infrastructure services using Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure.
• Strong understanding of Linux/Unix systems, including system configuration, networking, and debugging.
• Proficiency with infrastructure tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or Terraform for infrastructure as code.
• Skilled in utilizing core cloud application infrastructure services such as identity platforms, networking, storage, databases, containers, and serverless technologies.

Desirable Criteria:

• Knowledge or experience of identity authentication protocols e.g., OAUTH and OIDC (OpenID Connect)
• Background in supporting consumer-facing IT systems, emphasizing user experience over mandatory adoption of internal IAM systems.
• Experience leading production support in a global environment, including technical incident resolution and serving as an Incident Manager for critical P1/P2 incidents.
