Overview

The Gas Utility Dispatcher will provide and dispatch timely emergency and routine service requests using a two-way radio and various means of communication. They will serve as the communications link between the customer, Gas field service workers and all other service departments in a twenty-four (24) hour operation, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities
• Log information on designated radio and/ or telephone logs
• Provides emergency and routine information to designated field crews when working as a dispatcher in order to maintain a safe environment in emergency situations that threaten the safety, health, life and property of citizens
• Preserve and retain all documentation for legal purposes
• Answers customer telephone calls, records and logs all relevant information on to designated logs, creates electronic work orders through computer designated programs and dispatches field crews as necessary
• Receive, research and transmit inquiry requests of customer accounts and provide status of gas service including establishing new accounts, meter information and current account status
• Close out department service requests for traffic control in hazardous situations
• Decipher handwritten work orders for accurate transcription and data entry of utility maintenance work orders
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non exempt - Full-Time
• Rotating 40-hour work week; must be available to work additional hours as needed
• Available for twenty-four (24) hour/ seven (7) days a week operation; including evenings, weekends and holidays
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications
• High School/ GED
• Six (6) months to one year of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
