Job Description:

Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc., (AMA) is looking to hire a Space Nuclear Systems Project Lead to support the Advanced Projects group at either AMA's Denver, CO or Huntsville, AL branch. Possibility for hybrid or remote work.

AMA is currently accepting applications for an experienced engineer to lead efforts related to technical oversight and review of modern space nuclear reactor design and analysis at AMA's Denver or Huntsville office. The desired candidate will lead efforts related to NASA engineering services for nuclear thermal propulsion (NTP), nuclear electric propulsion (NEP), and fission surface power (FSP). In addition to completing the application on our website (www.ama-inc.com/careers) candidates selected for an interview will be required to provide two or more references. The compensation for this position is expected to be between $100k-$175k and is commensurate with experience and education.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical oversight and design review for current space nuclear reactor technology development.
  • Iterate with system designers to deliver critical feedback, identify technical risks and concerns, and provide technical solutions.
  • Evaluate project progress and identify risks to cost and schedule.
  • Manage the flow of information between project staff and key stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic vision for current and future work.
  • Support relevant analyses and trades to determine required technology maturation of reactor components and facilities development for space reactor systems.
  • Perform literature review and documentation to assist in ongoing space reactor system development and programmatic planning efforts.
  • Publish reports, papers, and articles on findings.
  • Participate in customer meetings and presentations.

Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Nuclear / Systems Engineering or other related field. Advanced degrees are highly desired but not required.
  • 8+ years of experience with research, design, and development of advanced nuclear power systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and independently manage tasks.
  • Technical writing experience and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a diverse multidisciplinary team/audience.
  • Ability to independently communicate with and interface with government customers or stakeholders.
  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency

Desired Qualifications:

Not all desired qualifications are necessary or expected from applicants. Tasks will be assigned based on applicant's interest, niche skills, and strengths.
  • Professional experience related to FSP, NTP, NEP, or alternative nuclear space systems.
  • Extensive experience working with NASA, DOE, DOD or other related government agencies.
  • Project management skills (agile project management (APM), personnel and task management, cost analysis and scheduling).
  • Experience with scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project, Visio, or Timeline.
  • Previous exposure to or research experience related to the NASA systems engineering process (or equivalent DOE / DOD processes).
  • Technical experience with reactor technology maturation planning, integrated systems qualification planning, and quantitative risk analysis.
  • Understanding of computational multiphysics requirements and approaches for advanced reactor design.
  • Experience reviewing technical proposals.
