This position is responsible for facilitating Phillips 66's enterprise-wide quarterly and annual SOX compliance efforts and supporting financial reporting and accounting policy development. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the annual SOX controls review, working with counterparts across the organization to design and update key SOX controls, as well as interpreting accounting standards, and providing technical accounting guidance.

The role is a full-time role onsite in our Houston, TX office.

Responsibilities May Include:
  • Draft and maintain accounting policy documentation, whitepapers, and memos in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Provide technical accounting support on complex transactions.
  • Support external reporting through review of SEC filings, including preparation of disclosures.
  • Collaborate with business units, FP&A, internal audit, and external auditors on accounting issues and control design.
  • Coordinate the annual SOX controls review process and collaborate with business and IT contacts to update and design SOX controls.
  • Prepare and present reports on SOX compliance status to management (302 and 404 letters).
  • Review SOC Type 1 and Type 2 reports for Third Party Service Providers to ensure compliance.
  • Identify and assess risks related to SOX compliance and recommend mitigation strategies.

Required Qualifications:
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
  • 5 or more years of experience in finance, audit, or accounting
  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and SOX requirements

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in accounting policy and the oil and gas industry
  • Prior experience in public accounting
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to review complex processes and controls
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
