Description
Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring an instructor of Electrical Systems Technology & Clean Energy in the Electrical Systems Technology Department. The Instructor for Electrical Systems Technology & Clean Energy is responsible for providing instruction in subjects such as AC/DC electricity, wiring concepts, clean energy, and basic manufacturing. The role includes delivering both lecture and lab-based training, maintaining accurate student records, and aligning curriculum with industry needs. The instructor collaborates with the program director to develop and implement relevant training programs, supports customized training for local businesses, and participates in the ongoing enhancement of course delivery methods. The position requires effective communication, organizational skills, and technical proficiency to meet workforce and educational goals.

Examples of Duties
  1. Offer instruction in areas of AC/DC Electricity, Wiring Concepts, Introduction to Clean Energy, Basic Manufacturing and maintain accurate student records.
  2. Meet with classes for assigned hours and deliver relevant instruction in lecture and lab settings
  3. Collaborate with Director to determine training needs, and participate in developing and delivering training that meets those needs.
  4. Participate in the development, analysis, and implementation of varying methods of course development and maintain records of student attendance and grades according to college and state policy and procedure.
  5. Provide instruction for customized training for business and industry, and training support to other workforce programs as available.

Minimum Qualifications
Associates Degree in Electrical Systems Technology or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant job experience.

Work Experience:

At least two years of work experience in residential and industrial wiring or a related field.

  1. Knowledge and understanding or demonstrated ability to understand technical principles relevant to the assigned class or classes to include Electrical theory and concepts, Clean Energy sector and Basic Manufacturing
  2. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and effective oral and written communication skills.
  3. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  4. Ability to think creatively and put ideas into action.
  5. Ability to make presentations to classroom audiences at an appropriate level.
  6. Computer proficiency in desktop office applications.
  7. Personal integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  8. Understanding of the mission, goals, and objectives of a community college.
  9. Working knowledge of the business and industry community within Durham and Orange counties preferred.

Normal Working Hours:

40 hours per week for 9 months. Specific work hours to be determined by the scheduled class hours and by consultation with the supervisor.
