JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is seeking a Permitting Advisor with strong knowledge of Alberta's regulatory and permitting landscape for natural gas infrastructure projects. This role will support project teams by identifying permitting requirements, outlining the necessary steps, and directly managing the preparation and submission of permit applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Typical Responsibilities:
  • Identify applicable permitting and regulatory requirements for natural gas transmission and distribution scopes.
  • Advise engineering teams on required approvals from:
    • Alberta Energy Regulator (AER)
    • Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA)
    • Municipal authorities (e.g., development permits, utility coordination)
    • Other relevant provincial or federal agencies
  • Prepare and submit permit applications in coordination with project teams.
  • Track permitting timelines, conditions, and dependencies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of permitting processes and regulatory changes.
  • Support internal risk assessments related to permitting readiness.
  • Develop internal reference materials (e.g., permitting checklists, flowcharts).


Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood now, or in the future is required.

Expected:
  • At least 5 years hands on experience working with multiple and multi level jurisdictions submitting permits applications.
  • Ability to work together as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Communicate effectively to ensure that the permitting requirements are well understood and fit for purpose
  • Well organized with a keen eye for detail to ensure that submitted documentation is done right the first time around.

Desirable:
  • An Engineering background is preferred but not required for the job.
