Job Description Summary

The Prototype Machinist will be responsible for producing high-precision prototype components and assemblies. This role involves setting up and operating manual and CNC machines, interpreting technical drawings, and working closely with engineers to bring conceptual designs to life. The machinist must ensure that prototypes meet all specified requirements and maintain high-quality standards throughout the production process.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

-Prototype Fabrication: Manufacture prototype parts using manual milling machines, lathes, grinders, and other equipment.

-Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, CAD models, and other technical documents to determine the specifications for the prototype.

-Machine Setup: Set up machines, including tool selection, fixture setup, and part alignment, to ensure accuracy and precision in machining.

-Quality Assurance: Inspect finished products using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and CMMs to ensure compliance with design specifications.

-Collaboration: Work closely with design engineers and product developers to refine designs, suggest improvements, and troubleshoot any issues during the prototyping process.

-Material Selection: Select appropriate materials for machining based on design requirements, including metals, plastics, and composites.

-Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on machining equipment and tools to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

-Documentation: Maintain accurate records of machining processes, tool changes, and any modifications made during the prototyping phase.

-Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

- Minimum 5 years of experience as a machinist, preferably in a prototype or R&D environment.

- Proficiency in operating manual machines. Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, and materials.

- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical documents.

- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively to troubleshoot and resolve issues.

- High level of precision and attention to detail in all aspects of machining and quality control.

- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a machinist apprenticeship or technical program preferred.

- Ability to lift heavy materials, stand for long periods, and work in a noisy environment.

- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and basic computer operation for programming and documentation purposes.

- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs

Schedule: Tuesday through Friday from 6:00am to 4:30pm

Pay

The pay for this position is $28.00 to $31.00 an hour. This posting is expected to close on July 28th, 2025.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
