The Nuclear Technologist is a highly skilled professional who prepares radioactive compounds or drugs, and administers them to patients for imaging or treatment. The Nuclear Technologist uses specialized camera systems to detect the radiopharmaceuticals, which then creates a precise picture of the part of the body being imaged. Nuclear technologists provide support to physicians/providers who diagnose a patient's condition.

Essential Functions:

  • Calculates, measures and records radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received, used and disposed, using computer and following physician/provider's prescription
  • Produces a computer-generated or film image for interpretation by a physician
  • Dispose radioactive materials and store radiopharmaceuticals, following radiation safety procedures
  • Maintains and calibrates radioisotope and laboratory equipment
  • Responsible for educating and preparing patients for their examinations including procedure preparation and post procedure instructions
  • Provides patient care that is essential to the performance of a variety of procedures
  • Take and documents patient's medical history before an exam
  • Positions patients so desired anatomy will be demonstrated
  • Determines and sets appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology
  • Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients
  • Works in collaboration with a board certified radiologist
  • Contributes to the overall patient experience and satisfaction
  • Participates in performance improvement activities
  • Adheres to HR, safety, HIPAA and compliance policies, and attendance requirements
  • Performs work in accordance with established schedules, policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associates Degree from an AMA-approved school and meet requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Nuclear Medicine Technology Certificate Board ( NMTCB)
  • Current BLS
  • Experience working with an EMR
  • Ability to accurately type a minimum of 40 WPM
  • Strong verbal and written communications, and active listening skills
  • Solid patient/guest relations skills with the ability to communicate in a professional, courteous and efficient manner
  • Ability to perform basic math
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize task in order to complete assignments within the time allotted to maintain standard workflow
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member who is flexible, cooperative and willing to assist others
  • Epic EMR preferred
