DIRECTOR of FIRST-GENERATION PROGRAM

Hiring Salary: $20,000-$25,000, Commensurate with experience
THE PROGRAM
UC Law SF attracts a significant first-generation student population - roughly 20% of each entering class of approximately 400 JD students. The First-Generation Program is a co-curricular program that creates a welcoming community for UC Law SF students who are the first in their families to attend college and law school. It includes about five special lunchtime or evening programs each semester, including orientation, graduation, networking, and other skills development programming, often in partnership with practicing lawyers and firms. UC Law SF seeks to hire a part-time director to manage this program.
THE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of the First-Generation Program reports to the Provost & Academic Dean and conceives and implements programming aimed at supporting first generation law students from orientation through graduation. Programming includes events aimed at building community, promoting academic and professional success, and helping students' network with the broader alumni and practice communities. The Director will also serve as a mentor and advisor to first general students.

- Typical duties and responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conceive and implement academic and professional development and networking events.
- Develop and nurture partnerships within the law school, across higher education institutions, and within the practice community.
- Host mentorship office hours with first generation students.
- Raise funds from third parties to support the Program and first generation students.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- J.D. degree required. Bar membership required.
- Experience working with first generation students and professionals required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong leadership skills.
- Excellent oral and written skills.
- Proven program development experience.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire teams around common goals and interests.
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently, as well
- as being able to contribute as a member of a team.
- Creative and entrepreneurial approach.
- Ability to manage budgets.
- Commitment to protecting and promoting the interests of first-generation students.
