GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK

Receives daily tickets to transfer and change out gas meters for both new and existing customers. Troubleshoots metering and/or billing complaints, relocates gas meters for customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned:
  • Works and assists as part of a crew in digging ditches and laying pipe; and the repair and maintenance of gas lines.
  • Performs all duties in conformance with appropriate safety and security standards.
  • Performs some/all duties of Utility Worker as required or assigned.
  • Installs meters, removes meters, transfers meters.
  • Cuts gas on and off.
  • Assists in controlling traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas as required or assigned.
  • Repairs or assists in repairing gas leaks.
  • Reads gas meters for accuracy.
  • Operates various types of light equipment such as shovels, picks, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of equipment operating principles

  • Knowledge of the methods, materials and tools.
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions.

  • Ability to observe proper safety precautions
  • Ability to establish effective working relations with other employees, supervisors and the public.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to drive and operated a variety of equipment under varying conditions, excavation sites.

EDUCATION

A high school diploma or G.E.D equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

DRIVER LICENSE

Must have a valid Tennessee Drivers License with a clear driving record. If a candidate does not have a valid Tennessee driver's license, they must acquire one within 30 days of hire.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

It shall be the responsibility of the City of Lebanon Utilities Director to assess the type(s) of reasonable accommodations which may be necessary to allow the individual to perform the essential functions of this role and to provide such necessary reasonable accommodations to a qualified individual with a disability, provided that nothing herein shall be construed to require the provision of reasonable accommodations if doing so will impose an undue hardship on the employing agency or a direct threat to the safety of himself/herself or others
