JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Machinery Advisor to join its Singapore business unit focusing on serving as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Technical Authority (TA) for all major rotating equipment across the site for a major onshore brownfield project in Basra, Iraq on 4x4 rotation.

This is a full-time onsite position in Basra, Iraq, with travel requirement.

Key Objectives

The Senior Machinery Advisor will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Technical Authority (TA) for all major rotating equipment across the Site.

This role provides deep technical leadership and expertise across the full lifecycle of rotating machinery assets, including reliability improvement, condition monitoring, troubleshooting, failure analysis, and optimization of maintenance and integrity programs.

Scope of Machinery:
  • Gas turbines
  • Reciprocating compressors
  • Centrifugal compressors
  • Large electric motors and generators
  • Critical and non-critical pumps
  • Gearboxes and associated mechanical drive trains

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical surveillance and drive integrity program management for all rotating equipment.
  • Lead field troubleshooting of critical machinery issues and support Operations & Maintenance teams in safe and effective problem resolution.
  • Improve machinery reliability by identifying and mitigating potential failure modes through proactive risk-based approaches.
  • Develop, review, and maintain Machinery Reliability & Condition Monitoring programs, including:
    • Vibration monitoring & analysis
    • Oil analysis
    • Thermography
    • Performance monitoring
  • Track and report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for machinery reliability and availability.
  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFA) on machinery failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in and drive Machinery Risk Assessments.
  • Provide input and leadership on machinery upgrades, replacements, or new projects.
  • Maintain and update critical machinery documentation, technical records, and performance trends.
  • Mentor and coach national engineers and technicians in machinery reliability, diagnostics, and best practices.
  • Support Asset Life Extension programs through machinery engineering leadership.
  • Interface with OEMs, Engineering Contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure technical integrity and alignment with standards.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations on machinery issues and improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in cross-functional reviews and act as Machinery Technical Authority during key engineering and integrity reviews.

Expected:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 20 years of experience in upstream oil & gas with a focus on onshore field machinery and rotating equipment.
  • Deep expertise in machinery reliability, condition monitoring, and failure analysis.
  • Demonstrated leadership as SME and/or Technical Authority in major upstream O&G projects or operations.
  • Experience with Machinery Protection & Condition Monitoring Systems (e.g., Bently Nevada, SKF, etc.).
  • Familiar with international standards and best practices: API 610, API 671, API 684, API 686, API 618, ISO vibration standards.
  • Experienced in Asset Integrity Management Systems (AIMS) for machinery.

Skills
  • Strong analytical and diagnostic skills for complex machinery problems.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken), English proficiency.

Systems
  • Familiarity or experience with the following systems desired - work management system, integrity management system
