General Statement
Under the general supervision of the Lead Wastewater Plant Operator, the Assistant Wastewater Plant Operator, and the Wastewater Plant Operator will be responsible for safely operating the City's wastewater treatment plant, which utilizes an activated sludge treatment process in accordance with all local, state, and federal rules and regulations. The wastewater plan operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This position serves as essential personnel based on the needs dictated by the Public Works Director or the designated representative. This will require employees to return to work during inclement weather or emergency events. This position can be hired as either the Wastewater Plant Operator or Assistant Wastewater Plant Operator, depending on the candidate's qualifications.
The minimum starting salary is $20.20 - $30.18* + Competitive Benefits* Eligible experience, education, and expertise may provide a greater starting base pay within the full pay range.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain various plant operations and maintenance records.
- Maintain records of samples, results, and field testing parameters in accordance with predefined standards.
- Perform routine process control testing on treatment process.
- Read various laboratory equipment displays and correctly record results on log forms.
- Must provide organizational support by following all policies and procedures.
- Must be present at site at work when scheduled and on time; arrives at meetings and appointments on time.
- Observes and follows safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.
- Must be able to multi-task to meet all productive standards and complete assignment and work in timely manner.
- Must use Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook for reporting and communication.
- Must live within 45 minutes of normal travel time to Kyle, Texas. Will be required to be on-call.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum / Preferred Qualifications, Experience, and/or Certifications Required
Assistant Wastewater Plant Operator:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Possession of a valid Texas Class C driver's license is required.
- Must have reliable transportation and reside within forty-five (45) minutes of the Public Works Department in order to respond to after-hours emergencies.
- Ability to obtain TCEQ Class "D" Wastewater Treatment License within one year of hire date.
- Preferred Qualifications: Certification from a technical or vocational school. Previous experience in wastewater treatment operations.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- One year of experience in work environments such as process control operations, water distribution, or wastewater collection, construction, or in the operation repair and maintenance of mechanical or industrial equipment.
- Possession of a valid Texas Class C driver's license is required.
- TCEQ Class "C" Wastewater Treatment License
- Preferred Qualifications: Certification from a technical or vocational school or an Associate Degree in environmental or Life Science field, and three years combined experience in work environments such as process control operations, water distribution, or wastewater collection, construction, or in the operation repair and maintenance of mechanical or industrial equipment. Class B Commercial Driver License is preferred.
