An international engineering and manufacturing company is seeking an experienced and proactive HSE Lead to oversee Health, Safety, and Environmental practices at its Schiedam facility. This role is ideal for someone with a hands-on approach, strong leadership skills, and a passion for safety in a technical production environment.

Function description

The HSE Lead will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining HSE policies and procedures that ensure compliance with Dutch and international regulations. This position plays a key role in fostering a culture of safety and environmental awareness across the organization, particularly on the production floor.

Reporting to the European HSE Manager and the local Management Team, the HSE Lead will work closely with production teams to identify risks, implement control measures, and drive continuous improvement. The role includes managing external relationships with inspectors and suppliers, conducting incident investigations, and delivering safety training to employees and contractors.

This is a strategic and operational role that requires a visible presence on the shop floor and the ability to influence and coach teams at all levels.

Requirements

• 5-7 years of experience in an HSE role, preferably in a technical manufacturing or production environment
• 1-3 years of leadership or management experience in a similar setting
• Relevant HSE qualification (e.g. HVK, MoSHE, NSPOH, or A&O Psychology)
• In-depth knowledge of Dutch safety and environmental legislation
• Valid VCA certificate and familiarity with ISO standards
• Proven experience in risk management and the development of risk control programs
• Strong communication and coaching skills
• Hands-on, solution-oriented mindset
• Fluent in Dutch and English (both written and spoken)
• EU passport or valid work permit for the Netherlands

Nice to Have:

• Experience working with external regulatory bodies and auditors
• Background in continuous improvement or lean manufacturing environments
