Job Description

Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking an experienced, career-level Chemical Engineer or Mechanical Engineer to support both ongoing and new missions for the Gas Transfer Systems Technology Group.

The position will provide engineering expertise to support Lifetime Extension Program Development Tasks and Reservoir Surveillance Reporting for the Gas Transfer Systems Technology Group in SRNL. Tasks will include data analysis, laboratory support, calculation development, and practical application of equations of state for gases. This posting is a result of expanded adjacent scope in the GTS group. Experience in gas handling, vacuum systems, pressure systems and/or piping systems is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Preferred candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work independently and lead complex tasks that require coordination of resources under defined schedules and across organizations, while being able to manage competing priorities.
  • Candidate will have the ability to analyze data from development and surveillance tests, derive conclusions, troubleshoot issues with data and test systems, and communicate findings to customers.
  • Hands-on experience in gas handling, vacuum systems, pressure systems and/or piping systems is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in gas systems is preferred.
  • This job will entail the processing, loading, and testing of pressurized containers.
  • Job will also require regular scheduling and financial reporting duties, along with occasional travel to work on project teams across the Nuclear Enterprise to meet Design Agency requirements.
  • Experience with Design Labs/Requirements would be a plus.
  • The selected candidates will collaborate on a team to conduct the assigned technical work. Ability to interpret technical data and writing technical reports, and peer reviewed publications is required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with 5-7+ years of experience and possess a working knowledge and understanding of gas manifold pressure and vacuum systems, valves, vacuum pumps and compressors (related to gas pressure systems).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a "Q" security clearance for which U.S. Citizenship is legally required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MS/PhD in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
