About this Role:

The Controller at Our World Energy will be a key financial leader responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all financial reporting, accounting operations, and compliance functions. This role will drive financial accountability across the organization and implement best-in-class processes to support Our World Energy's rapid growth. The Controller will work cross-functionally to support strategic decision-making while maintaining a disciplined and audit-ready finance function.

Job Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Accuracy
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all financial statements, including P&L, balance sheets, and cash flow.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.

Accounting Operations
  • Manage all accounting functions, including AP, AR, payroll, bank reconciliations, and expense tracking.
  • Lead preparation for internal and external audits in collaboration with external auditors.
  • Ensure strong internal controls are implemented and consistently followed.

Compliance & Tax
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP (or IFRS if applicable) and maintain audit readiness at all times.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors to manage filings, deductions, and tax compliance.

Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Lead or assist in the annual budgeting process and develop cash flow and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor financial performance against budget and highlight key variances.

Policy & Procedure Development
  • Develop and enforce accounting policies, controls, and operational procedures.
  • Implement scalable systems that promote financial discipline and organizational efficiency.

Strategic Insight
  • Provide financial insights to support company-wide decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Partner with the CEO and CFO to evaluate ROI on key projects and contribute to long-term financial planning.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA designation preferred.

Required Experience:
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including leadership of accounting teams.
  • Experience in the solar, construction, or energy sectors is highly preferred.
  • Prior audit, compliance, and tax coordination experience required.

Technical Skills:
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control frameworks.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (NetSuite, QuickBooks, or UKG preferred).
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.

Soft Skills:
  • Strategic thinker with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proactive, highly organized, and results-driven.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

Measures of Success:
  1. Timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
  2. Compliance with internal controls and audit readiness
  3. Budget performance tracking and variance identification
  4. Scalable accounting processes that support company growth
