Job Summary:

Geothermal Drilling Superintendent oversees all aspects of geothermal drilling operations at project sites. This includes managing field crews, coordinating with subcontractors and vendors, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and delivering projects on time and within budget. The superintendent ensures all drilling activities meet technical specifications, quality standards, and client expectations.

Responsibilities:
  • Direct and supervise geothermal drilling crews and subcontractors on-site.
  • Coordinate daily drilling operations including rig setup, borehole advancement, loop installation, grouting, and testing.
  • Monitor site safety and enforce compliance with OSHA, company, and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with project engineers, geologists, and the project manager to review drilling plans and adjust as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed daily drilling reports, including footage, production rates, tooling used, and crew hours.
  • Troubleshoot drilling challenges (e.g., lost circulation, equipment failure, unexpected subsurface conditions).
  • Manage procurement and inventory of consumables, casing, loops, and other supplies.
  • Ensure proper use, maintenance, and inspection of drilling rigs, pumps, and support equipment.
  • Coordinate with utility locators and permitting agencies before work begins.
  • Communicate with clients and stakeholders regarding project progress and issues.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement among field teams.

Qualifications:

Required:
  • 5+ years of experience in drilling operations, with at least 3 years in geothermal or water well drilling
  • Proven supervisory or foreman-level experience
  • Strong understanding of rotary/mud drilling, loop installation, grouting, and pressure testing
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, drilling logs, and specifications
  • Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, and state/local environmental regulations
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Ability to travel and work extended hours as needed

Preferred:
  • NGWA Drilling Certification (or state equivalent)
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • Experience with closed-loop and open-loop geothermal systems
  • CDL license

Work Environment:
  • Primarily field-based with exposure to varying weather and terrain conditions.
  • Requires lifting up to 50 lbs., standing for long periods, and working around heavy machinery.
