Job Description:

You will sit within Finance Business Technology (FBT), supporting BP's supply, trading and shipping business (ST&S) and working 3pm-12 midnight Malaysia time zone. A key focus of the role is to support the structured trade finance teams to monitor and control risk as well as ensure data integrity in the relevant underlying systems. You will sit in Kuala Lumpur, providing support across an oil and gas multi- commodity business operating on a global basis. You will have the opportunity to interact with experts across the world and across commodities all while having the opportunity to help shape initial remit and forward vision for the team.

Key Accountabilities

  • Advise on the most suitable type of Letter of Credit (LC) to support risk mitigation and/or working capital optimization
  • Handle amendments and extensions of Letters of Credit, Standby Letter of Credit and Bank Guarantees
  • Prepare and coordinate documentation for SBLC issuance to third parties, ensuring timely execution by banks.
  • Draft and submit applications for issuance based on EPLC recaps, verify with counterparties, and liaise with issuing banks.
  • Process claims related to LC payments in a timely and accurate manner
  • Handle communications with banks and counterparties regarding receivables discounting arrangements
  • Maintain effective communication channels with banks and counterparties to support trade finance operations
  • Ensure timely and accurate updates to reference data, including new trading counterparties, trading terms, and external rating changes.
  • Collaborate with settlements teams to ensure systems accurately reflect credit risk exposure and communicate updates to regional teams.
  • Proactively engage with regional business divisions to highlight and address portfolio risks or concerns.
  • Monitor and assess credit limit utilization, providing recommendations on limits and ratings to regional teams.
  • Ensure data consistency across all credit systems and underlying datasets.
  • Support ad-hoc projects and initiatives as required.
  • Find opportunities for operational improvement and recommend measures to enhance team productivity.

Essential Qualifications and Job Experience

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or a related experience
  • Certified Documentary Credit Specialist (CDCS) certification is a plus
  • 7 to 10 years of meaningful experience in collections, credit risk management, or trade finance.
  • Strong knowledge of international trade rules, including UCP600 (Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits) and ISP98 (International Standby Practices).
  • Validated experience in operational credit or trade finance roles within international/regional banks or multinational corporations.
  • Solid understanding of trade finance instruments such as Prepayments, Receivables Securitization, Receivables Discounting, Supply Chain Financing, Inventory Financing, and Trade Credit Insurance.
  • Familiarity with general accounting principles, particularly regarding debt and non-debt classification.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Experience working with a credit rating agency or commercial bank is advantageous.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
