JOB SUMMARY
The First-Generation Student Success Mentor (FGSS Mentor) plays a vital role in supporting the engagement, and success of first-generation college students. Working collaboratively with faculty grant leads and staff, FGSS Mentors assist in event planning, student check-ins, and engagement strategies designed to enhance retention, academic progress, and a sense of belonging for first-generation students at Klamath Community College.
This is a part-time position of no more than 15 hours per week.

Specific Duties
- Communicate with students in the first-gen cohort via email, text, or in person
- Assist faculty leads with outreach and recruitment efforts for first-gen student programs
- Support the planning, setup, and hosting of first-gen events on campus
- Attend meetings as available related to the First-Generation Student Success Grant
- Check in with and provide peer support to students within the first-gen cohort
- Help identify barriers to student success and connect students to campus resources
- Maintain accurate communication and follow-up logs
- Assist with general mentoring duties as assigned
General Duties and Responsibilities
- As appropriate, refer students to other resources on campus
- Stay up to date on the Student Life event schedule
- Attend one-on-one meetings to assess progress
- Be familiar with KCC departments, resources, and campus event
- Participate in team meetings and trainings
- Maintain professional and clear communication with students and staff
- Promote and attend grant-related events as needed
- Contribute to a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students
- Provide feedback to improve first-gen programming and mentorship initiatives
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits at the time of application and throughout employment
- Maintain a minimum term and cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher
- Must be a current or previous member of the First-Generation Student Success cohort
- Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits at the time of application and throughout employment
- Must be available to work on campus during scheduled shifts
- Commitment to supporting the success of underserved, first-generation, and low-income students
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed at least three terms of 6 credits at Klamath Community College
- Bilingual in English and another language (Spanish preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google apps
- Experience with student mentoring or event coordination
- Knowledge of campus resources and student support services
- Valid driver's license
- Applicants must be registered for the next fall term to qualify for employment during summer term

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Frequently moving from stationary sitting positions to standing and walking
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
- Work is performed primarily on campus in a shared office setting
