Erosion and Sediment Control Specialist

Our Environmental Permitting and Management (EP&M) team has a particular need to support our infrastructure, power, and renewables projects. We are looking for an Erosion Sediment Control (ESC) Specialist who will lead Erosion and Sediment Control Plans and application activities in Alberta working with our Environmental team, planners and designers. This role is for our Alberta and Prairies EP&M team; however, you will support colleagues nationally as part of our wider group.

Our work includes delivering projects from early planning, through strategic development of regulatory/approvals processes, to design inputs, and compliance monitoring during construction and operations. Our team works collaboratively to obtain key approvals and applications as well as manage commitments to environmental compliance and sustainable development.

Location - Calgary or Edmonton, AB

Your role within the team:
  • Strong expertise in Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) plan development, improvement, maintenance, documentation, compliance and best practices.
  • Responsible for managing/coordinating environmental compliance across various project sites throughout Canada. You'll work with/developing ESC plans, lead/support inspection teams, and ensure compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and standards.
  • Supporting as a detail-oriented environmental professional who thrives in field and regulatory environments including site inspections, audits, and environmental monitoring.
  • Developing and maintaining project/task schedules, budgets for engagement, monitoring progress, work hours, overall budgets, and expenditures.
  • Liaising with regulatory agencies, municipalities, and project teams to resolve compliance issues and maintain transparency.
  • Reviewing and maintaining accurate environmental documentation including inspection reports, incident logs, and site assessments.
  • Training site personnel and subcontractors on environmental policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Support of the planning and execution of environmental risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
  • Supporting business development efforts, including potential client/prospect identification, proposal writing and client-facing activities.

The ideal candidate:
  • A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. P.Eng would be considered an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in environmental management, with a strong focus on erosion and sediment control.
  • Designation such as CISEC, CPESC, CESSWI, or equivalent certification and added experience/knowledge is necessary.
  • Proven experience managing/coordinating with field teams and environmental compliance programs in construction, civil infrastructure, or land development.
  • Knowledge of Canadian federal, provincial and municipal ESC regulations (e.g., COC-ESC Regulations, Fisheries Act, CEPA, provincial water/land use policies).
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workloads to manage multiple assignments at one time, and strong organizational and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record. Willingness to travel in Alberta, the Prairies and across Canada, for a week or more at a time, and potential routine field programs with active projects.
