Job Description Summary

GE Aerospace Research is looking for a Chemical Process Specialist with capabilities in chemistry and chemical processing. As a Specialist, you will support the research and development of chemical processes for a broad range of projects. You will be responsible for the design, set up and operation of mechanical systems for chemical processing, with duties ranging from formulation of functional material compositions, scale-up, material characterization, and system integration and testing.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

You will:
  • Assist in the development of new chemical processes
  • Work with researchers to develop test methods and build equipment that can be used for experimentation or perform other various tasks relevant to chemical processes in GE projects
  • Prepare chemical formulations and carry out straightforward chemical sythesis
  • Perform basic characterization of chemical materials.
  • Identify key technical issues, develop new processes and iteratively improve system performance through experimentation and process optimization with assistance from scientists and engineers
  • Independently operate various pieces of laboratory equipment, investigate novel material components and integrated material systems and utilize basic analytical methods
  • Be responsible for the safe and compliant use/operation and disposal of hazardous chemicals and materials
  • Build relationships with colleagues at GE Aerospace Research with a wide variety of technical expertise and business responsibilities
  • Provide experimental data for IP disclosures and patent application processes
  • Be a member of a multidisciplinary team developing functional material systems


Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline, or Bachelor's degree with 5 years' of hands-on experience in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • Familiarity with chemical processing and testing methods
  • Ability to build and troubleshoot chemical process equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new areas of research
  • Ability to work with diverse, high-paced teams
  • Willing to work government-funded projects
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.

The base pay range for this position is 60,000 - 110,000 USD Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary. This posting is expected to close on September 20, 2025
