TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 month (240 days)

SALARY: Based on Bulloch County Schools salary/supplement schedule

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Operations Supervisor or designee

POSITION SUMMARY:

An HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) Technician works under the direction of the Maintenance Operations Supervisor and is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and installation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems throughout the school district.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • At least three years of experience as an HVAC Technician or completion of an HVAC technology or related educational program with relevant certification or diploma.

    • Possession of a valid Freon Recovery License.

  • Valid Driver's License.

    • Basic computer skills, including internet browsing, emails, spreadsheets, and word processing.
    • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
    • Knowledge of electricity and wiring related to the installation, service, and maintenance of HVAC systems and controllers.
    • Basic knowledge of refrigeration fundamentals, gas heat, heat pumps and related systems.
    • Ability to troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems.
    • Knowledge of refrigerants and their appropriate uses.
    • Knowledge of and ability to weld and solder.
    • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools and powered equipment.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and diagrams.
    • Ability to perform manual labor both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
    • Ability to interpret demands and organize responses in a fast paced and ever changing work environment.
    • Experience working with a diverse group of people.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience as an HVAC Technician in an industrial or commercial environment.
  • Possession of a valid Conditioned Air Contractor License for the State of Georgia.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Evaluates, repairs, and installs HVAC systems.
  • Reads and interprets technical diagrams and blueprints.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs HVAC equipment and controllers, including, but not limited to, the replacement of defective parts such as compressors, valves, refrigerant lines, motors, belts, pressure controls, and control panels.
  • Installs new or replacement HVAC systems.
  • Performs preventative maintenance to HVAC systems and makes necessary adjustment(s), repair(s), or cleaning.
  • Performs wiring of HVAC electrical systems and controllers.
  • Uses energy management software to access and diagnose systems functions.
  • Solders or welds wires and pipes.
  • Installs, repairs, or alters ducting.
  • Removes, transfers, or replaces refrigerants.
  • Prepares and assembles conduit and connects wiring through them.
  • Tests electrical systems and components to ensure proper function.
  • Receives, completes, and updates work orders utilizing a work order management system.
  • Utilizes a variety of hand and power tools to repair, maintain, and install electrical systems.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Ability to be flexible relative to daily routines. Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to the differences among diverse populations.

Ability to adjust work processes without incident when new and unexpected directions are given relative to a project that may be in process.   • Organizational Skills: Ability to establish priorities, simultaneously manage multiple tasks; and deliver a quality work product by a designated deadline.

Ability to demonstrate professionalism while interacting with others and to maintain constructive working relationships.
  • Attendance and Dependability: Ability to report to work at the scheduled time and to seldom be absent from work. Demonstrate prompt and regular work attendance. Process appropriate paperwork to authorize absences in accordance with school system procedures. Ability to complete work in a timely, accurate manner and to be conscientious about work performance.

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designated supervisor in accordance with Policy GBI - Evaluation of Personnel.
