What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Nuclear Facilities Systems Engineer 1 or Nuclear Facilities Systems Engineer 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Are you driven by curiosity, fueled by innovation, and ready to be at the heart of cutting-edge technology? Join us as a Systems Engineer for the Plutonium Infrastructure Engineering Division (PIE-DO) and become a key player in creating the future of nuclear systems engineering at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). If you're eager to apply your engineering knowledge, collaborate with industry experts, and solve complex national security challenges with real-world impact, this is your launchpad. Here, you'll gain hands-on experience, contribute to critical projects, and grow alongside leaders in the field. Excellence isn't just encouraged-it's expected. If you're motivated, meticulous, and ready to make a difference, we want you on our team.

PIE-DO at LANL develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative systems engineering solutions in support of the Laboratory's Plutonium Facilities. PIE-DO is responsible for implementing the Conduct of Engineering (COE) Systems Engineering program on Division projects. The program elements support Verification and Validation (V&V) activities that are generally applicable throughout the life cycle of a facility. They exist to effectively manage risks and satisfy customer requirements in a safe, secure, cost effective, and environmentally responsible manner.

Nuclear Facilities Systems Engineer 1 $94,500 - $154,600
The Systems Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the design solution fully meets its requirements and design intent. Systems engineers help develop and manage requirements, requirements traceability reports, V&V plans, qualification plans, and test and acceptance documentation. Systems Engineers apply system thinking to solve problems, integrate, and maximize the performance of complex projects throughout their life cycles, from conceptual design to closeout.

At PIE-DO, Systems Engineers are working on cutting edge projects for new technologies and facilities. The average day involves collaborating with project managers, a multidisciplinary team of engineers, quality experts, and subject matter experts to support the project's execution. The System Engineer 1 level will require a basic understanding of systems engineering principles and have the aptitude to apply these principles in the execution of the job.

Nuclear Facilities Systems Engineer 2 $104,100 - 172,200
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level, the Systems Engineer 2 level will require a demonstrated history applying systems engineering principles on the job. The Systems Engineer 2 level will also independently apply systems engineering principles throughout the project lifecycle, lead development and review of requirements for new systems and modifications, and recommend enhancements to current systems engineering processes, including proactively addressing lessons learned from operational feedback or task retrospectives.
