Job Purpose

We are looking for a skilled Scientist to join our team at Weatherford. In this role, you will be responsible for tool design, tool characterization, and data analysis using machine learning techniques. The ideal candidate will have a cross-functional skillset blending data science, simulations and nuclear experimentation. Expertise in applied mathematics, mathematical modeling and signal processing is a plus.

Roles & Responsibilities

OPERATIONS

  • Tool physics


  • Evaluate nuclear detectors for downhole applications


  • Use modeling code to design nuclear logging tools and predict tool response


  • Develop logging tool characterization test plans and assist with testing and tool experimentation


  • Evaluate tool response modeling using MCNP


DATA SCIENCE

  • Design custom tools to optimize data mining, cleaning, validation and analysis tasks


  • Analyze large volumes of structured and unstructured data to identify trends and patterns


  • Develop and apply custom data models and algorithms to data sets, ensure data accuracy


  • Automate processes using AI tools and programming


GENERAL

  • Provide technical expertise to assist the broader science community


  • Resolve project-related problems within their area of expertise


Experience & Education

REQUIRED

  • Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Data Science or Physics


  • 5+ years' experience in the Oil and Gas industry


  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills


  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities


  • Proficiency in managing and interpreting large datasets


  • Knowledge of tool physics and tool characterization


  • Experience with machine learning techniques


  • Experience with statistical and data mining techniques


PREFERRED

  • Experience using C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, R, SQL


  • Experience using MCNP simulation software


  • Expertise in areas such as formation evaluation, production logging and well integrity.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills, with the ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions.


  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders


  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to health, safety, and environmental compliance.


  • Self-starter. Curious. Ability to research independently and integrate knowledge from various sources into working solutions.


PREFERRED

  • Active participation in technical societies, forums and open-source communities is a plus.


  • Published technical papers, presented in industry conferences.


Travel Requirement:

This role may require domestic and potentially international travel of up to: 10%
