This is an Internal Employment Opportunity
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time, intermittent (approximately 2 hours per week as needed) Nuclear Reactor Operator position for the Radiation Center at Oregon State University.
The NUCLEAR REACTOR OPERATOR starts up, operates, shuts down, and conducts maintenance and surveillance checks on Oregon State University's TRIGA Mark II one megawatt nuclear reactor.
This position sits within OSU's Radiation Center and serves as an important back-up support person when needed. Intermittent support may be needed when the full-time operator is on lunch break, out sick, or has planned time off. The position may also need to work alongside the full-time operator for training, meetings, SOP development, etc.

Key Responsibilities
85% Operate the OSU TRIGA reactor in accordance with applicable requirements of the licenses, technical specifications, and OSU operating procedures. Document reactor operations by completing the required logs and records.
5% Prepare and insert samples into the appropriate reactor irradiation facilities. Remove irradiated samples while in compliance with established radiation protection procedures.
5% Perform routine maintenance of reactor components and support equipment as schedule. Document all major maintenance items of the TRIGA reactor.
5% Assist the Nuclear Reactor Supervisor and perform the duties of the Nuclear Reactor Supervisor in his or her absence, or as required by the operational schedule of the reactor.
What We Require
One of the following: college-level, vocational, or military courses in Reactor Operations and Principles, Electronics, and/or Radiological Health and Safety; OR a satisfactory combination of on-the-job training and experience; AND must be able to obtain a Nuclear Regulatory Commission Reactor Operator's license for the specific reactor within 12 months of appointment. NOTE: The training and experience must clearly show: knowledge of nuclear reactor theory; knowledge of general reactor operating characteristics; knowledge of math sufficient to calculate algebraic formulas; knowledge of radiological safety principles and procedures; and skill using mechanical equipment and hand tools.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
