Sandman Structural Engineers (SSE) is seeking an experienced professional Engineer to join our Electrical Power team. In this position you are responsible for performing design work on assigned projects with other engineers and technicians to enable the success of our clients and our people.
Core Responsibilities

Design and Technical Expertise -65%

Facilitate the development of clear and comprehensive designs that meet current technical standards and regulations.

Key Activities:
  • Proven engineering skills and knowledge necessary to produce projects that meet firm expectations
  • Consistently exhibit sound engineering judgement
  • Provide real-time feedback
  • Coach and mentor team members
  • Teach technical, managerial, and leadership skills
  • Recognize and appreciate team members for contributions and accomplishments
  • Delegate duties such that all team members are doing their highest and best use

Project Management - 15%

Optimize project efficiency, profitability, and timely delivery to maximize client satisfaction

Key Activities:
  • Establish project budgets and workload forecasts
  • Coordinate project schedules
  • Prepare and participate in project kick-off and closeout meetings
  • Ensure project process compliance
  • Maintain project accounting records in real-time
  • Assist Team Lead in development of proposals and contracts

Client Relationships - 10%

Create an optimal rhythm of client communication to create and sustain trusting relationships and maintain/increase client satisfaction and retention.

Key Activities:
  • Develop personal relationships with clients that go beyond the work
  • Understand client work pipeline
  • Prepare and participate in project meetings in a professional manner
  • Understand each client's requirements and expectations
  • Stay current with clients via check-ins
  • Review and recap project success with clients

Coaching and Leadership - 5%

Assign and direct engineers and technicians while fostering professional development based on humility and trust with a high expectation of hard work and two-way communication.

Key Activities:
  • Teach technical and project management skills
  • Recognize and appreciate team members for contributions and accomplishments
  • Delegate duties in a way that all team members are doing their highest and best work

Administration - 5%

Ensure project information and communication is documented and retained properly. Record time and milestones accurately into project management software system.

Key Activities:
  • Ensure documents and emails are filed appropriately
  • Accurately record and completion percentage
Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program
  • 6+ years of engineering experience with clear progression in responsibility
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills, adaptable to all audiences
  • Physically able to conduct field inspections and testing as assigned
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record

Preferred:
  • At least 3 years' experience in Structural design engineering in the Electrical Power industry
  • Knowledgeable in engineering software, specifically Risa3D, PLS Pole, Allpile and/or MFAD
  • General knowledge of engineering standards, including AISC Steel Construction Manual, National Electric Safety Code (NESC), ACI 318, and ASCE 113
  • Involved in local outreach activities, university engineering clubs, etc.

Compensation:

The starting hourly compensation for this role is $35-$55. A variety of factors are considered when determining an offer including, but not limited to, market data, geographic location, experience, education, and specialized skills.

Environmental Conditions:

Office environment; field environment; construction site environment; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, heat, cold, and inclement weather conditions when conducting field inspections and investigations.
