Overview

The Gas Technician Ill is responsible for the timely response to line locate requests issued from the One Call Center and assigned through Ticket Management System. Gas Technician Ill supervises a crew that locates, marks gas, water, wastewater and storm drain systems throughout the City. Reviews all paperwork prepared by subordinates, to include work orders, vehicle safety inspection reports, AOC's, Meet Sheets and Time sheets. Manages ticket loads and assign areas of coverage as necessary. Manages crew workloads by authorizing overtime, approving time off requests and manages payroll through Kronos payroll system. Manages equipment and supply needs and inventory.

Responsibilities
• Locates and marks underground City pipelines with the use of dual frequency radio detection devices, probe rods and metal detectors
• Drives to sites within the City and working most of the time in the field
• May have to dig to locate valve boxes or lead wires covered by dirt and debris to locate the pipeline
• Performs clerical tasks such as completing required forms used to document work orders, vehicle inspections and meet sheets in accordance with Department procedures and/or regulatory requirements
• Reviews all paperwork prepared by subordinates
• Reviews and monitors work is being conducted in accordance with company procedures
• Identifies areas of high excavation activity, maintain markings, inspect of unreported damages or threats to City facility
• Documents and records essential information related to locating the City's pipelines
• Research as-built drawings, map books, and GIS maps to verify pipeline locations in the field; obtain dimensions from plats to determine pipeline locations
• Uses One Call ticket management software and applications ln the field
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non - Exempt - Full-Time
• Rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed

Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma/ GED
• Five (5) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
