WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Wastewater Manager is responsible for all wastewater related activities. This includes being the main point of contact with operations regarding brewery effluent, the planning, construction, maintenance, and operation of the wastewater treatment plant systems to meet discharge permit limits, and being the primary contact with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies regarding wastewater activities.

Reports to: Vice President of Operations

• Plan, oversee, and conduct all wastewater treatment plant operations to meet discharge permit limits including, but not limited to, maintaining digester health, CHP (combined heat and power) operation, internal and external laboratory testing, monitoring chemical usage, and maintenance.
• Source and negotiate contracts, manage inventory, and direct the procurement of all parts, chemicals, testing, and other material or labor necessary to operate the wastewater treatment plant.
• Implement strategies for waste reduction, including side streaming (separating high-strength waste for alternative uses like animal feed), waste beer capture, and sludge handling.
• Be the primary point of contact with all regulatory agencies regarding wastewater, including permitting and records management.
• Plan and lead wastewater treatment plant expansions and upgrades.
• Perform other duties as assigned in relation to facility maintenance.
• Participate in the weekly Operations Leadership Production Meetings.
• Participate in the Company Safety Committee.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Minimum 5 years of experience in an Operations or Maintenance role in a manufacturing or industrial processing environment.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a wastewater treatment operations role, preferably in food or beverage manufacturing or brewing.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a supervisory role in manufacturing or industrial processing environment.
• (PA Only) Pass, or actively working towards, the Pennsylvania Certified Operator "Part 1 - General Exam".
• (NY Only) Pass, or actively working towards, the first three NY State Wastewater treatment courses - Basic Operations, Activated Sludge, and Basic Laboratory Procedures.
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting procedures.
• Expert level understanding of wastewater treatment theory, plant operations, laboratory analysis, and data interpretation.
• Advanced understanding of safety best practices in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
• Advanced mechanical aptitude and understanding of preventative maintenance programs.
• Ability to work across and coordinate activities between multiple departments.
• Ability to be on-call for after hours or weekend emergencies and scheduled maintenance.
• Capacity to address unexpected issues and implement effective solutions in a potentially hazardous environment.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Physical Requirements

• Primarily stand for long periods of time.
• Frequently sit, stand, walk, bend over, twist, kneel, climb, stoop and crouch. This position requires the ability to routinely and repeatedly lift up to 55 pounds and maneuver 170 pounds repeatedly.
• Use their hands to perform fine manipulation, handle or feel, and must be able to reach with their hands and arms.
• Identify product deficiencies (color, smell, taste); this requires having close, distance, color and peripheral vision as well as depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
• Safely and properly handle hazardous materials in various size quantities and operate complex moving machinery.

Work Environment

The Wastewater Manager may perform their job in loud, cold, hot, wet environments, in an office, in a laboratory, and around dangerous chemicals.

Supervisory Responsibility

Direct and supervise wastewater treatment plant staff and operations, including scheduling, training, performance evaluation, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols, dependent on location.
