PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install heating and airconditioning systems and equipment throughout the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all HVAC systems in district

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install heating and airconditioning systems and equipment throughout the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all HVAC systems in district
facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid Texas driver's license and insurable by school district insurance company, under the 10 point system
- Texas air conditioning and refrigeration contractor license or technician certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Must possess a high degree of leadership and communication skills
- Knowledge of chilled and hot water air conditioning systems
- Knowledge of cooling towers and condenser water systems
- Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to HVAC/Refrigeration
- Knowledge of Building Automation Controls
- Knowledge of Chillers, Boilers, and Cooling Towers
- Ability to diagnose and resolve problems and communicate in English
- Ability to use hand tools
Experience:
- Prefer previous training and five years of experience working with Chillers, Heating Boilers, DX systems, HVAC controls, Pumps, Valves, etc.
- Prefer two to four years in HVAC trade with at least two years of experience in hot water and chilled water systems of 100 ton capacity or greater. Proficient in diagnostics and repair of pneumatic and DDC control systems, variable frequency drives, heat recovery and thermal storage HVAC systems
- Prefer 3 to 5 years of experience in general maintenance repairs of new construction
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
OTHER:
- Diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of heating and air conditioning systems, including DX, rooftop equipment, VFD, energy management controls, cooling towers and chilled/hot water A/C systems.
- Evaluate concerns received on equipment, supplies, and personnel and take appropriate action.
- Install new heating and air conditioning systems and components.
- Relocate and expand existing HVAC systems as needed.
- Repair, replace, or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring.
- Fabricate, assemble, and install duct work and piping according to specifications and code.
- Wire and connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, and humidity controls according to wiring schematics.
- Maintain Freon dispensing records to meet federal requirements.
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and procedures for all HVAC equipment, including changing of filters and cleaning condensers and coils.
- Perform duct cleaning and air quality testing as needed.
- Assist energy manager to complete energy conservation surveys to realize most efficient, cost- effective use of HVAC energy.
- Receive and complete work orders.
- Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
- Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
- Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment and materials.
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
- Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
- Detect needed repairs on equipment following established inspection procedures.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed.
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting,climbing, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
- Exemplify high standards of ethical conduct.
- Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance.
- Work in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel.
- Use professional information discreetly and judiciously.
- Support and follow administrative and board policy.
- Represent the school system to the community in a positive, professional way.
- Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward patrons.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Help other HVAC technicians trouble shoot, make recommendations on repair procedures, assist in equipment and parts recommendations, and provide guidance for overall continued education in the HVAC field.
Equipment Used:
- Meters, gages, welding equipment. Light truck or van.
Terms of Employment:
- Work year established by the board; salary according to current schedule.
