Performs supervisory, administrative and labor work of average difficulty involved in the maintenance of wastewater treatment and lift station equipment.
Examples of Duties

- Assists the superintendent and other coordinators with scheduling, assigning, directing, monitors and assists the work of employees and use of equipment engaged in the repair, installation, maintenance and construction of wastewater treatment pumps, motors, blowers, gear drives, gas chlorinators, liquid chemical fee equipment, water wells and related equipment
- Inspects activities of work crews and ensures proper quality of work and efficiency and economy of operation
- Reads and interprets blueprints to locate problems or make repairs
- Establishes policies, methods and procedures to be followed by work crews
- Adheres to internal safety program and may take the lead during department safety meetings
- Requisitions, purchases and/or maintains supplies
- Prepares and/or maintains a variety of maintenance records and operational records
- Assists in the preparation of cost estimates and designs for future wastewater plant/lift stations improvements
- Maintains contact with other divisions to coordinate activities and communicate needs and policies
- Employee refers to various engineering manuals and O and M manuals to determine proper repairs.
- The employee refers to written guidelines (e.g., City ordinances, organizational regulations) and oral instructions in performing work activities. Work assignments are generally broad and the employee must use judgment to select the appropriate procedures and interpret the regulations. The employee may recommend changes to or additions to existing guidelines. Highly unusual situations are referred to the superintendent.
- The employee performs a moderate number of tasks requiring judgment and decision-making based on knowledge and experience. Employee must coordinate activities and plan the work of others and plant operations. Instructions to the employee are broad.
- The coordinator manages employees and is responsible for assigning work, planning departmental work activities and setting goals and priorities. He/she is responsible for the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of subordinates work.
- The coordinator makes work assignments that generally outline work objectives. The employee is usually free to determine the best methods of accomplishing assignments or objectives. Highly unusual or complex situations are normally referred to the coordinator for assistance in resolution. Work is reviewed intermittently for adherence to policies and procedures.
- The employee has contact with other employees, subordinates and coordinators. He/she also has some contact with citizens and sales personal.
- The purpose of personal contact with citizens is to provide information on services performed, to explain or interpret organizational policies and regulations, or to resolve complaints or problems. These contacts are generally structured and cooperative in nature although the employee may be required to use considerable tact and judgment when dealing with irate or hostile persons.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Considerable knowledge of three (3) phase high voltage , PLC controllers and solid state electronic control boards or the ability to learn with training
- Considerable knowledge of the tools, equipment and materials used in the repair and maintenance of wastewater treatment equipment and pumps
- Good knowledge of control voltage
- Good knowledge of the HPO methods and techniques used to supervise and coordinate work crews in the work area
- Good knowledge of the operation and function of wastewater plant and lift stations
- Good knowledge of departmental and applicable City policies and procedures
- Considerable knowledge of the use, repair and maintenance of equipment used in wastewater treatment including welding and cutting torch
- Considerable knowledge of applicable operating policies and procedures pertaining to the transaction of departmental business
- Good knowledge of laboratory/test procedures to analyze wastewater samples
- Good knowledge of Federal and State regulatory requirements related to water/wastewater treatment and testing
- Ability and skill in performing complicated math such as simple algebra, business math or elementary statistics to prepare reports, check budget data and compare construction and equipment costs
- Ability and skill in the use of an engineering scale to layout construction projects
- Ability and skill in effectively communicating orally and in writing to give and receive information and to resolve problems
- Ability to work shifts on demand
Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have high school diploma/GED
- Must have valid driver's license at time of placement
- Must have driving record sufficient for coverage by City's auto liability carrier
- Must have "B" License or above
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Electrical license preferred but not required
