Wood is recruiting for Journeyperson Scaffolders - Adhoc (Casual /Temporary) to join its Operations team focusing on the oil and gas petrochemical industry. This opportunity is offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, working on an as needed, call-out basis.
As a Journeyperson Scaffolder, you will plan, erect, build, maintain and repair temporary work structures and platforms to provide workers with safe and secure access to the job face. You will also be constructing, fabricating, erecting and repairing permanent and temporary structures on the worksite by using power tools, rigging equipment, and hand tools. This role will be responsible for planning and executing scaffolding activities in accordance with drawings and specifications, while working at heights, as well as noisy conditions which may be indoors or outdoors, and at extreme temperatures.
The Role

Site / Office based: Hibernia Platform
Hours of work: 12 hours per day
Rotation / work pattern: Call out, as needed
Required: Site-specific medical, drug and alcohol testing
Unionized position: Rates follow the Collective Bargaining Agreement

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow all company and site-specific safety rules, and always working within the Company's Safety Program. Maintaining behavior-based safety essentials and adherence to the Life Saving Rules. Understand and respond accordingly to all safety alerts, warnings, hazards, etc.
- Listen and communicate effectively and respectfully. Work as a part of a team, under the direction of a foreman and/or general foreman. Maintain motivation to work safely and productively
- Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy, understanding and following specifications and drawings. Apply mathematics and geometry to solve problems
- Plan work and select proper tools, equipment and machinery. Estimating and selecting materials required to complete a job or task. Planning sequences of methods of work
- Read and interpret blueprints, layout plans, vendor installation and operation manuals, and other schematic drawings to determine work procedures
- Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Able to adequately comprehend and communicate using the English Language
- Use hand tools and power tools to measure and cut boards, plywood, metal and other material to appropriate size
- Apply proper signage and tags scaffold structures to inform employees of safety hazards
- Consult with scaffold users, supervisors and other tradespersons to determine scaffold requirements, potential loads, occupants and usage
- Assess foundations for suitable and safe placement of scaffolding
- Perform mathematical load calculations to determine platform size and bracing requirements
- Design and erect scaffolding, both ground-based and suspended
- Track and maintain scaffolding material inventory. Ensure that there is an appropriate amount of material to complete the scope of the job
- Inspect scaffolding materials, equipment and structures on a regular basis, ensuring that it is safe for use
- Perform rigging duties as required, utilizing proper rigging procedures and safe work practices
- Perform other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
What makes you remarkable?
As a successful candidate you are expected to have:
- Completed 3 periods (minimum 1600hrs) of relevant on the job experience, accompanied by Journeyperson training credentials from a Canadian Accredited Training Institution, OR provides evidence of sufficient knowledge and experience to be deemed a Journeyperson
- Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the trade
- The ability to rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
- Worked as part of a team and ability to take directions
- Demonstrate competence in the Scaffolding trade
The following offshore certificates and training are required and would be considered an asset:
- Basic Survival Training (BST) including HUET and HUEBA
- Rigging, Slinging, and Banksman
- Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) Alive
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS 2015)
- Offshore Safety Regulatory Awareness
- Fall Protection
- Confined Space Entry
- Emergency First Aid

Physical Requirements
- Must pass a site-specific drug and alcohol test and CAPP Medical as required by the customer
- Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50lbs
- Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions as identified above
- Able to move and work in confined spaces, following proper protocol
- May be required consistently to work 12-hour shifts performing physical labor in varying temperature extremes and conditions. May be required to work overtime on occasion
- Must be able to climb and maintain balance on stairs, ladders, scaffolds and steel framework, utilizing proper fall arrest procedures when required. Able to safely and comfortably work at heights without posing a danger to oneself or others
- Able to meet physical requirements of frequent walking, climbing, standing, bending, twisting and crawling for the duration of the shift
