Activities

The Government Affairs Specialist is responsible for providing data collection, research, analytical, and writing support to the Washington Office and TotalEnergies' businesses in the US. The Government Affairs Specialist will also represent TotalEnergies at some external events. In this role you will:

  • Support the activities of the TotalEnergies Washington DC office and the Government and Public Affairs team by:
    1. Conducting research into assigned topics and assigned areas of responsibility
    2. Providing analytical reports /memos on US positions/debates on areas of responsibility
    3. Working on any ad hoc issues as may be assigned
  • Assist TotalEnergies HQ by working on specific tasks or missions
  • Develop a presence primarily amongst some Washington DC's industry associations and think tanks in liaison with specific areas under responsibility
  • Understand the direction of US energy policy, climate policy and foreign policy in specific areas/geographies defined by management which impact TotalEnergies' business interest
  • Provide accurate research, reporting and critical thinking on assigned topics
  • Have presence in Washington's policy ecosystem

Candidate Profile

TotalEnergies is seeking a Government Affairs Specialist , to join its team in Washington, DC.

Education/Experience:
  • Relevant degree in Government and Public Affairs, Economics or Business
  • Relevant advanced degrees in specialist Government and Public affairs / Economics an advantage
  • 5-8 years of associate level (or higher) experience in advocacy or public policy. Experience working with an energy company is preferred
  • Prior work on Capitol Hill is highly desired to understand the culture and environment.

Skills:
    • Excellent oral, written, analytical, critical thinking, and delivery skills
    • Strong project management skills. Ability to multi-task, schedule driven
    • Positive, proactive, self-motivated, autonomous, creative spirit
    • Foreign language skills are desirable
    • Adaptability to and respect for cultural differences
    • Demonstrated interpersonal skills - this is a small team, so proven ability to collaborate and work effectively is critical
